Camper parts wanted.

I have a 1991 syncro (ex telecom) which I have had a Trakka roof installed about 8 years
ago, but haven't got around to installing cupboards etc. Is there anyone out there with a
trakka or equivalent interior (cupboards,sink.stove.) for sale. Do not need fridge or bed.

Nick,

A lifetime ago, I had a T2 Kombi with windows.  I had a pop-top installed and intended to build in cupboards.  Fortunately, before I started that, I found some second hand sets of drawers.  They were 560 wide, 460 deep and 710 high and had eight drawers each.  Being a bit pressed for time, I decided to use them until I did the cupboards.

Just as well, because I discovered that many smaller drawers are considerably more functional than fewer big drawers.  We found that it was easier to store things generically and that they were far more accessible than having the same amount on half the number of drawers or less.  When comparing notes with other travellers, all remarked on this aspect.  Big drawers contain a lot but a lot has to be shifted or rummaged through to get what you actually wanted.

I used two sets and bolted them to the (marine ply) floor on the right side.  They could be removed in about four minutes to liberate volume but I rarely had to remove them.  This made a unit of 16 drawers, 1120 long.  I covered the top with marine ply and the top projected forward by about 100 mm, thus providing a space for a slim folding table and two folding chairs which could be removed for outside use.

Since I had a standard rear seat installed, I ran the top back until it nearly touched the back of the rear seat, providing a storage volume and a very workable bench.  A marine SS two burner + grill was fitted to the top with over-centre catches and could be removed and used outside.  I had (still have!) an Engel 30 litre compressor fridge which was secured to the floor behind the passenger seat with more over-centre catches.

I have never used a downstairs bed because having to repack every mortal thing just to make up the bed is never worth the trouble.  Even thought I have a Syncro with a Trakka GoldPak conversion, I still use the upstairs bedroom.  I have replaced the ply bedboards with hardwood slats.  I have also extended the length to over 2M because I like to sleep straight, not curled up.  I have a pair of Roman self-inflating mattresses which are wonderfully comfortable.

I have got off the track.  It is possible to install highly functional storage from standard and readily available sets of drawers.

Les

Nick, I have the interior out of a 82ish Westfalia in pretty average
condition.
