Canbera Syncro

Hi to all Syncro folks.
My first post, gentleman, though simply an enquiry.

There has been a syncro advertised for sale in ACT,posted in mid july, on alladvertiser.com if I remmber right.(certainly an uncommon website as such)

The owners seem to be no longer takiong calls, So has this vehicle been sold?
Or do I need to pursue it with a little more viguer?

Best Regards.
Rob Waite.
Rob,

Welcome to our mad group.

When I was @ Sawtell a couple of weeks ago a met a couple who had only just purchased a blue Trakka Syncro from Canberra a few days before they travelled to Sawtell. They didnt stay long enough to have a real good chat to.

Anyway attached is a photo of their newly acquired Syncro:

If this was the one for sale it has now gone. Sorry.

I do know of another really good one on the Central Coast that is for sale that is only used a couple of times per year - it is a Discoverer Converted camper with a rear diff-lock and it is white in colour. Other than that it is factory standard.

Cheers,

Skot

Looks like the very thing,actually.
Guess I'll cease phoning up those poor folks!

As for buying a Sync,I havent made up my mind yet, weather to find a camper,or,and most likely, hunt out a basic van.
Decisions,decisions.

Best regards
Rob.

Scott, speak for yourself!

(That said, being mad is not mandatory but it probably helps!)

Rob,
You better tell us what you have in mind for it. For example, why you might buy a T3 syncro in preference to a myriad of winnebagos etc. Are veedubs in your blood? Is your better half willing to share you? Are you willing to learn about it, fix it, spend money on it. Have time for it? Somewhere to park it out of the weather? I could go on.
Perhaps then we may have something to tell you that may be of some assistance.

Moot point!   We might ask Ken to run a poll on that but he would first have to prove that he is sane enough to do so.

And we might well find that a ‘sane Syncro owner’ is an oxymoron.

Good Question,Ken.
I have had a Reimo Transporter in Europe some ten years earlier, and yes,as one can imagine, had to constantly repair just about the entire van to accomplish my travels.
I'm an engineer by trade, and enjoy fiddling around with toys of the like.
I swore black, that i'd never own another 'heap of shit transporter' ,though a Syncro presents me with an altogether different challenge.

I'd like to install a turbo diesel.
Thinking this may qualify me for Syncro madness disease?

In the short,I know nothing of the syncro, its hi's and lows, leaks, squeaks, and grones.
Every machine has its facits,of which in this case,im blind.

So the first step being to buy one and go have a laugh in it,learn about it.

Having just completed an epic voyage of the continent,id like to do it in a diesel syncro, again!

Hope this offers some insite to my ideal Australian traveller.

Rob.

Rob,
An engineer eh. May I introduce you to Les then. You guys can converse in that rarified stratosphere and in engineering parlance. I'm happy to sit on the fence!

I don't recall anyone in Oz who's done a T3 syncro diesel conversion and is entirely happy with it. Seems to me they are usually problematic in some form or other and are few and far between. Not ever heard of a turbo diesel here. So you may well be heading into Oz unchartered waters with this turbo diesel project.

Personally I think bastardising Oz T3 syncros is a real shame. We all should be conserving our precious and limited Oz fleet as much as possible. Leaving them essentially original is also the most practical/economical/less problematic and simplest option over the long term. Also they are attractive to future owners appreciating original examples, as opposed to bitzers. I always wonder what future owners have to do to come to grips with servicing/maintaining bitzer syncros. Just my penneth worth.

So yeah, without even owning one yet, you're already well qualified for the syncro madness Special Interest Group!  ... haha

Cheers.

Yes Ken, exactly my sentiments. Remember I bought  a complete front half Golf TDI  from Japan via Stephen Muller (kombirescue , maybe he can get another one). I have been humming and haying

For some 5 years before I decided it was time for peace, and selling the engine. It now performs it’s duty in a combine harvester in SA. I just love diesels and if I strike it rich, I would allow myself

To send an ex Telstra truck over to Bernd Jaeger and have a V6 Audi Diesel installed plus a brand new trannie. .............

Glad I am that the Tristar is still original except for the rims, and  inner door trim panels and I want to keep it that way. For me the 2.1 Wasserboxer  still delivers ample power to keep up with traffic and

That with 400 000 kms fast approaching. The engine was never been

out or opened up, no studs were replaced, no heads done etc. However nothing can keep on going for ever , so a top end overhaul is on the cards.

Rob Waite.

Hi Hartmut,

Are these the Tristar door cards you are missing?

Hi Ralph

Lovely surprise to hear from you. I promise to see you next time  I’m over. Was supposed to go on 27th for 3 weeks but have to mind the dogs as all fam members are somewhere else.

Elke will go on her own and loves it.....but there is the chance that Phill / Joanne will come for your Dunedin event, in that case  I will give the Wings o Wanaka a miss and join in.

No the door cards are not missing on mine only that  I had them done up, they look ok but are not original.... guess it would be hard to find good originals after 20 odd years.

But thanks for the link anyway.
