Yes this one is really nice. It was up for sale about a year ago but he decided to keep it. I wonder what changed his mind again? I know they will have to pry mine out of my cold dead hands.

Its not like the market has really improved.

Hey Scott, do you remember if he was asking the same money last time. Hard to put a price on syncro dokas as they come up so infrequently.
Gary, any bites on your bus, I bet part of you does not want the phone to ring. Greg E

Greg,

I think he may have been asking $19K but it was a year ago and I have trouble remembering yesterday.

I think Gary has sold his syncro (according to the Kombi Club site) it was at least a week ago that it sold - hopefully to an enthusiast.

Cheers,

Skot

Hi Greg yes my bus sold after putting it on the kombi club site. It's on its way to Qld by truck tomorrow loaded up with all the spare bits.

I'm very sad to see it go and frustrated to not to have actually finished it but not as sad as my 6 yr old who cried for 40 minutes when I told him!

I'll still be here and biding my time to buy something else just not sure what....

Hi Gary,

Maybe , if you would have put my AAZ 1.9 TDI into it, you would have kept it.... it actually went to Syncro member in Adelaide who stuck it into a combine harvester. Feeling sorry for that beautiful engine.

Hi Gary,
Glad to hear you sold your bus, even though you have mixed feelings. I
imagine our boys would be just as sad as poor Ned. Still, it seems it
probably went to an enthusiast who will get some joy out of it.

Francesca.

Hartis,

I believe the AAZ is a prechamber or 'indirect injection' turbodiesel. That makes it a 'TD' and not a 'TDI' where the 'DI' stands for 'direct injection'.

Sorry, just want to clarify in case some goes chasing down one of these engines. I own an example of each of the above. Whilst I agree the AAZ is a beautiful piece of machinery , the electronically controlled 1Z TDI is serendipity defined.

Hi Hart

That's a shame, that was a rare engine in Australia. The 1.6 engine is actually going really well it was just only having half an hour a week to work on all the other jobs that made me part with it.

Hi Francesca, yes he's definitely an enthusiast owning a few other kombis and looking to build his ultimate camper. He may pop up on the list, I told him about it.

A lot of soul searching went on before I decided to sell. I blame the possums in the trees in our street. No matter where i parked it they seemed to swing out to the end of the branches and find a way to deposit their unmentionables on it. I owed it the the syncro to stop that.

It's bicycles all the way for me now!

Hi Gary,
Glad to hear you sold your bus, even though you have mixed feelings. I
imagine our boys would be just as sad as poor Ned. Still, it seems it
probably went to an enthusiast who will get some joy out of it.
Regards,
Francesca.

Hey Scott, do you remember if he was asking the same money last time. Hard to put a price on syncro dokas as they come up so infrequently.

Yes this one is really nice. It was up for sale about a year ago but he decided to keep it. I wonder what changed his mind again? I know they will have to pry mine out of my cold dead hands.

Its not like the market has really improved.

Hi BenT,

Thanks for pointing this out to me. However the engine (AAZ) is a sought after one as is does not contain a computer, ECU or other equipment which are hard to fix when stuck in the desert. Bernd Jaeger travels North Africa for his annual holidays every January and prefers the cable operated injection pump to the electronic one. B.J. offers a change over inj. Pump on his website.

This sermon only for someone who considers a changeover to Diesel. I personally gave up on the idea because of age (!) money and my love towards the WBX.

Carpe diem and keep enjoying your Syncros ! Hartis

Hey Hartis,

I believe Bernd Jaeger is using a TDI with a hybrid pump. Basically, you take an electronically controlled Direct Injection pump and convert it to mechanical operation. Fuel is still injected directly into the combustion chamber vs. into a chamber for pumping into the cylinders separately like the AAZ.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with the AAZ. They are becoming rare in the US as well. As previously mentioned, I have one in my Syncro. It's just the more contemporary TDI's, whether electronically or mechanically controlled (aka mTDI), produce a lot more power and torque.

Cheers,

BenT
