I didn't think that '89s had round headlights. Maybe it's really an '88 or they still had the round headlights for build late '88 (MY '89). All Australian syncros had 2.1 MV engines.

Simon Matthews had an early syncro. Round headlights, spare wheel inside the back, no clock, no vent windows, no tripmeter, but I think that it had a rear diff lock.

Good find and looks to be in great shape.

Interesting to note that the Diff lock actuator on the dashboard is in black, not brown (like the rest of the interior) - does anyone think that it may have been added later? Or did brown interiors always have black switchgear for the diff locks?

Also, I haven't really seen in Oz before the syncro logo along the underside, even though I think it was often applied to the very early syncros. Maybe this is another hint to it's age.

It also is a Transporter Deluxe, not a Caravelle as such.

Hi Ben,

yes there were Syncros with round headlights, when I bought  my new Syncro in 1988 it had those headlights. A year later I sold it to Camperize Brookvale and bought the
second/h Tristar.  Hart

Ken,

Could you repost the link. For some strange reason I didn't get the first email and it has too many faults in it to get through once it has been replied to.

Phil and Hart,I assumed that like other t3s round headlights may of indicated the 1.9 power-plant.I did think that all t25s were 2.1.
It must of been built before 6/89,as this is when mine was built. My bus wasnt complianced till 1/90.The caravelle in question might of been built earlier and then complianced in 89.
My earliest memories of Syncro in Australia was at the Nationals in 88 at Hawksbury(VW is back),Easter weekend.I am sure these examples had square headlights,I may be wrong though as I was only 11.
I would be interested to know how many came in with round headlights and povo pack.

They were all black.

There were never any logos on normal production cars.

This could be a Trakka press car maybe as I remember the gold grille on some.

Trakka had a lot of Caravelle badges.

Hart,

Was that the white one that Richard had?

No all syncros were 2.1

The 2.0 air cooled and the 1.9 Digijet used leaded fuel, so were not imported to Australia after '86.
The headlights changed around '88 except the Pritsche. The changed at the same time for 2WD and syncro. Steve Muller should know.

Thanks Ken.

That worked. Nice syncro - pity about the standard wheels - need to put the
new buyer onto the Francesca wheel company for some new alloys.

I actually think mine would have had the round headlights when new and
Brookvale Spares changed them to the later version to keep up with the
Joneses.

No Phill, it was silver/bronze it had rear d/l and rear windshield wiper (!) $50 000.-- It was a transporter no frills. No rear seats ...  Richard and Partner were very much into beer
And what I heard was that the truck got Camperized and written off C/o Pittwater rd/Beacon hill rd. Unfortunately the other party was the wife of a policeman, whatever that means.
That's all I know about it. Other then that, it had severe Vanagon Syndrome for which in 1988  there was very little sympathy from your dealer. One had to live with it.

This site is new to me.......LOL...how do you send pictures???? The square headlights on mine were on it when it was bought,so were not changed by the previous owner. By "hybrid" I meant someone might have bought the grill etc and changed it themselves or repaired front end damage with the round headlights as it was a cheaper fix?????

Michael,

So long as you are receiving and sending emails from your email server, as opposed to the Syncro_T3_Australia website, attaching or inserting pictures is governed by your email programme.  Do whatever you do when you email pictures to your mates.

The white one was the previous 2WD that richard owned.
I thought that the syncro was repaired and sold to cover the cost of the other party.
