Clutch fluid.

I hope someone can help me solve a little mystery. Syncro has been inactive for the last 4 days where I left it all clean on the drivers side floor. No Fluid. Go to it today and brake fluid all over floor. For the master clutch cylinder to leak does it need to be activated or would the fact that it's been idle suggest it's the reservoir bottle that may be split.??? Any help welcome.

Bt the way Phil, rang Tooleys and got the last master clutch cylinder from them. Interestingly it looks totally different (it's the correct part) to the one fitted which is to be expected from the way this guy  Werner??? in Cairns botched the car together .

Regards

Michael

Michael,

It has been my experience on at least 3 different Syncros that a leaking master cylinder will puke it's guts out whether you are using it or not. T3's are notorious for destroying MC's from lack of use. The seals dry-up. There's typically the telltale sign of a puddle on the floor.

Yep thats what I'm getting right now Ben. So you think it's probable the clutch cylinder rather than the reservoir? Must say it feels drier when I reach up to the top of cylinder.

Michael,
It's usually the master cylinder rather than the reservoir. I'm sure they fail but I have not had a reservoir break on me yet on 30+ T3's owned. On my LT35, the o-ring seals for the reservoir failed but again the reservoir was in great shape. Anything is possible though.

Michael, this is the guy who botched my van. By the time I hit Wallgett I could have... Well you get it! Luckily I had all the receipts to work through and refitted all the parts he fitted. By the way clutch master cylinder leaks must be contagious - mine is leaking. Wish I had replaced it when I had the pedal box out. Rang a couple of places today and was quoted $260 by a brake and clutch and then $236 by VW! Was going to ring tooleys on Monday. With your leak the best advise I can give you is oil can only run down, not up. If the bottom the Brake master is dry then look toward the clutch master. Greg E
