Does anybody know what his gear box ratios is? It looks like a well balanced set up power - weight - tyres - gearing.

I thought it sounded like it had a bit more punch than a MV.

Interesting.

Hamish,

I dont know his gear ratios but this is one of the only two 16 inch factory syncros that did the Australian Rally.

Hence, it would at least have the 16 inch ratios.

Cheers,

It sounded similar to mine - but with more balls above 3000 rpm heading up the dune dot the first 2/3 but with Similar torque down low in the soft stuff in the last 1/3 of the pass.

Hamish,

I think that is why the EJ25 is a well suited motor - its a watercooled boxer engine with significantly greater power than standard yet not too much that it destroys gearboxes at will.

That VR6 of yours will give a gearbox plenty of curry.

I saw a Golf VR6 late model with a supercharger - now that would be a beefy power plant!

Hi there,
i want to change the air filter but don't know what this thing ontop of it is  (see photo - black snake like cloth covered pipe coming up from bottom of photo and is fixed to edge of air filter box) - I would need to unscrew this snake pipe in order to open the air filter box - does anybody know if i would do damage by doing this? we have a T3 transporter syncro water cooled engine with LPG and petrol......could this be a gas pipe? i don't want to open it if it is and wanted some advice?
cheers

It's you LPG feed pipe from the LPG regulator. You can undo it if you want.
It's safe to do so.
To be honest you can prob leave it on and still get to your air cleaner element.

But can undo it.

Your LPG tank has a electric solenoid valve on it - without ignition it's off.
If your worried and req further reassurance simply screw the manual isolation valve closed at your LPG tank discharge. (Next to it will be the electric solenoid valve too).

I have the stock AVU 16” gear box with the ratios

1st 3.78

2nd 1.88

3rd 1.225

4th 0.85

The final drive is 6.17 and the wheels are 205 R16 . This is a good match for the 2.5L Subaru which revs very freely.

Thanks for replying Yuriko.

I have the same gearing ( did have the same tyres too for 10 years ) except I changed fourth to 0.78 to drop my rpm down on flat open hwy driving.

Some times I regret that change now with a heavy camper and the lessor powered MV motor - originally my car was a tin top. Also the jump from 3-4 th gear is a little laborsom with a lessor revving engine.
