cooling system

Francesca, you may have to go with after market stuff,as I just dont think that there is anymore new VW stuff.(i mean plastic cooling parts)
Thanks. Stainless steel sounds like a good idea, if it does turn out to be that.

Someone reported a while back the plastic distribution junction 251 121 442A is NLA.

For the stainless steel replacement ...

While at it, pay particular attention to the condition of rubber hose 251 121 072A.  Remove the AFM airbox to see it. It's the top hose from the "Christmas Tree" coming back to the cylinder head. My mechanic tells me (and it happened to me previously), this particular hose is THE hose that fails more than the rest. But it seems this hose is also NLA!!

When it comes to hose clips, the original ones were spring clips. I doubt they would ever fail or change tension. Wherever possible, I prefer to leave them in place and ADD a screw up clip as well, if there is access .... for more piece of mind. I did that years ago when I was first inspecting/repairing the coolant system. Not had a problem since but I sure would like a whole new set of hoses!
