D6 locking ajent

From what I have sourced about D6 it is a locking ajent to stop water entry and corrossion used on things such as cv splines.Doesnt make the job of removing shafts from hubs any easier though!I still believe a thick coating of anti-seize grease is a better alternative.if you have ever tried removing shaft youll know what I mean.
Where did you source the information?
This makes sense and may be why it was very tight all the way, unlike loctite which is usually hard to move for the first bit.

D6 is evil.

I know exactly what you mean!
Anti seize will certainly make it easier to remove but you run the risk of flogging out the splines. Vw state in the repair manual "splines on drive shaft and wheel hub must be free of oil, grease and old locking compound". Looking at some old Audi info I have on the old audi quattro coupe of the '80s they have the same advise about d6, I think they probably learnt some hard lessons in the WRC. Greg

Satan?

D6 is evil.

I'm not keen to use D6 after the dramas with getting the CV off. But, there was not one bit of rust anywhere on the splines and over the years they have been immersed in water many times.

I'll keep researching, but it is nearly impossible to find out correct information on this type of thing and not someone just guessing (like me). Maybe D6 is just over engineering if you look at the other vehicles that SDP make?

Phill

Certainly hope so.

Cheers,

Phill,as you know any thing that makes it harder(or near impossible)to get shafts out,in my opinion should not be used.Maybe Audi did have problems in the 80,s but,we are not doing the WRC.Over engineering I suspect. No other vehicle that I have ever worked on,with CVs requires a locking ajent.Has anyone ever had problems with driveshaft splines wearing,on any vehicle.I never have.I have though had problems on many vehicles pressing them out.V6 4wsteer mazda/telstar were a real prick. They would get stuck in the gearbox and the hub.Happy that I dont work on cars everyday for a living now!

Nope, but I did get the CV out. Now I'm about to try a new outer CV.

Agreed

Maybe Audi did have problems in the 80,s but,we are not doing the
WRC.

Yep

Has anyone ever had problems with driveshaft splines wearing,on any
vehicle.

I have on a Beetle.

Happy that I dont work on cars everyday for a living now!

I hate working on modern cars. Actually anything after 1980.
