decouplers

Hi Guys,

I had an email from Bernd Jaeger a few weeks back saying that the
shipment of decouplers would be leaving that week and that mine was
definitely in shipment.

Does anyone out there know the status of the shipment - I'm guessing
they are coming via sea freight and I think that takes about 4 weeks.

Does anyone have any definite news?

Hello all,Does anyone know whats involved with the "small amount of machining" when purchasing a de-coupler from Syncro Hospital or are you better to buy one from the States? Is there any rework needed on the US de-couplers.Also,is there someone in Oz who rebuilds VC's or do I have to purchase one from OS on an exchange basis.Thanyou again Ben C
Gday Ben,

In the first instance, might I suggest you go to the home page of this
forum and below the pic, use the search facility using keywords such as
"decoupler", "VC" etc. You may well find the answers to your questions
there ok.

Cheers.

Ken

The US use a bronze bush instead of roller bearings.

The roller bearing models are also sold in the US. You have to ask you
vendor which one he/she is offering.

Ben,

The easiest path is to purchase a complete decoupler and it is preferable to buy the needle roller version rather than the plain bush version.

Rebuilding the VC is not straightforward and needs to be done properly or the function and life can be seriously impaired.  Mike Plompen, one of our list members in Belgium (http://www.busman.be/), supplies rebuilt VCs.  He also has a “sports” VC but that is strictly for off-road use, not general driving.  His standard rebuilt VC will restore the Syncro to the original design intention, which was to provide a highly functional AWD system over a very wide variety of driving conditions.

when i bought my VC last year, i costed them all at the exchange rate then and found that classic parts in germany were the cheapest.

This was for a new VC rather than rebuilt.

Exchange rates have changed a bit since then so worth checking the usual suppliers as US may now be cheaper.

contacts for classic parts below, they respond in English so no language probs

Ben,

Sorry, I forgot about the Classic Parts availability.  One advantage of that would be that it comes with a factory guarantee.

No worries. Gmail is an email hoarder's heaven. Nothing need be discarded and all can be retrieved in an instant. It's a good idea to compile such a list, Les.

Francesca.

PS Off to the Flinders Ranges with the kids at the end of June for a couple of weeks of Syncro touring. Nobody up that way, I guess? Might come back through Adelaide too.

Bob,

Just buy it from here, everything you need, including detailed instructions and shipped in two parcels to get UNDER the usual mandatory $AU1000 limit (goods AND shipping costs) GST extra otherwise charged on entry.

Quite a few have bought them from here, not yet heard of any problems with this German decoupler source.
