diff lock switch and face plate

Hello, Can anyone tell me where I could buy a switch for my diff lock and a dashboard face plate where the diff lock switch is located. Both are stuffed on my vehicle. Thanks Greg

Greg,

It is unlikely that the “switch” (vacuum valve) would be beyond reclamation.  I haven’t had one apart but I surmise that it uses ‘O’ rings, as most vacuum valves do.  Whilst it is unlikely that a VW dealer would have them (and they would cost a ridiculous amount anyway), all commercial bearing companies carry an immense range of ‘O’ rings and are sure to have the size.

There are lots of small switch panels available at the auto aftermarket places and you are bound to find one that suits.

Les

Greg,

I think you can still get these switches from VW.

Worth a phone call to your local dealer.

Cheers,

Les, the problem with the switch is the shaft pulls straight out of the dash into my hand and whatever keeps it from coming out has broken off.

The face plate I am talking of is the same as the one in the second photo of the photos section, so I figure it must be a syncro part.

I have read that you have a CD with syncro parts on it and I was wondering if I could get a copy of this if its not too much trouble.

The switch mounts to a bracket behind the face plate.Sometimes people have filed out the holes in the braket to fit after market swiches(AC,drivng lights, fans etc)if they dont have a diff lock or decoupler.I had to use a large washer behind the bracket to mount my decoupler vaccum switch.

Greg,
Have you taken the control panel out to see if it can be repaired instead?

Finding a replacement is problematic and expensive.

Find it at CarPoint.com.au New, Used, Demo, Dealer or Private?
Hi Ken
I dont like problematic or expensive but the face plate is cracked in 3 places and missing a piece all together.
Of course the bit missing is the bit that holds the switch/ shaft from coming out in your hand. I was hoping someone had one sitting in a box somewhere that they dont want. LOL Greg

Greg,

I have a spare face plate. It has been slightly hacked by a previous owner in one hole (unused one for the front locker) but is still OK. I will go and see if it is still in my stash of bits.

Where abouts are you?

Hi Ken
I dont like problematic or expensive but the face plate is cracked in 3 places and missing a piece all together.
Of course the bit missing is the bit that holds the switch/ shaft from coming out in your hand. I was hoping someone had one sitting in a box somewhere that they dont want. LOL Greg

I see.

Oh well Greg can have one with a factory hole and he can easily fit a front diff -lock if he feels inclined. Seeing the hole was so large and it had a side slit - I just assumed it had been butchered for an electrical device. Other than that - it is in perfect condition and the hole is fairly neatly cut - possibly done by the factory?

It looks exactly like my one to me. When i first got mine i couldn't work out how the front diff lock switch operated, i thought someone had bodged it up because it poked through further than the rear. Turn it 90 degrees and it pulls out normally!

G
I see.

Greg,
You better rush out and buy a lottery ticket. Well done Scott.

See my added pics attached. This method of blanking the large hole should work a treat for you.

As you would know, the historical link between Steyer-Puch and the syncro drivetrain components makes the embelishing of the panel with this badge to be most fitting. The fact that the badge colours match exactly with the panel colours, especially when the lighting is on ...... is really nice.

I sourced these badges in Sydney direct from the suppliers shop. Or else it is available through the same suppliers ebay store.
Goto: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/11899-PUCH-ROUND-LOGO-MOTORBIKE-PIN-BADGE-/370349501782?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_PinsBadgesPatches&hash=item563a8ced56

There are many different Puch badges available on ebay but this one happens to be the correct size to fit snugly into the switch position recess and sourced locally was a bonus. I understand it is manufactured in New Zealand.

Food for thought.
Cheers.
Ken

Greg,

The Syncro_T3_Australia settings allow all members to attach image files to their messages.  If you aren’t getting images with the Syncro_T3_Australia emails, then it is your own email programme that needs to be reset to allow you to view them.  We can’t help your from this end.  What email programme are you using?

Les

I ordered a badge this morning. Simple process through EBay and PayPal. It will look great in the button unit alongside the button for my new decoupler which is on its way.
