DOTVW 2012, Yarra Glen, Victoria

As of the last night's VW Club of Victoria committee meeting for the 2012 Day of the Volkswagen, it is confirmed that we have the same display area as we did for 2011.

Due to ground renovations by the Yarra Glen Racecourse committee, it was not clear until the last moment how we could meet their requirements and still accommodate all of the planned DOTVW activities.  Fortunately, it has all worked out and, equally fortunately, we have the same area as last year.  This area is now effectively allocated to us each year so long as we put up the usual strong showing.

I apologise for the very late notice but there were a number of issues to be resolved as well as the display area before I could be sure of what was going to happen.  I will post a map later in the day.

Note that it is probable that a dedicated gate will be used this year for groups such as ours.  This will allow the self-contained groups, which need no processing at the normal entry gates, to go straight to their dedicated areas.  This will take a considerable load off the main entry points.  This dedicated entry point is right beside our allocated area and will be marked on the map that I post later today.

Well done Les, thanks for your efforts. Sounds like a win win situation. Not having to faff around at the main gate will be good. Do you have to man that gate or are you free to enjoy the day?
On a personal note I have got the old girl up and running. Lots of tuning to do. Hopefully will get a chance before the show. Accelerating up hills is a pleasant new experience.
Will be able to give you that lift Phill, just catch the train to Fairfield on the Hurstbridge line. Though I know if Rodger is taking the new truck you will probably choose comfort and speed over pierced ear drums and a 20year old seat! Greg E

Who's coming this year?

Phill

The entry arrangements are the same as for 2011.

Pay the registration fee on the VW Club of Australia website.

This gives you entry to the inside area allocated to the Syncro group.  Without this, you get only general entry (which is more expensive) and you have to park on the far side, not in the display area.

http://www.vwclub.com.au/dotvw_reg.php

I apologise for the short notice but it took this long to get everything sorted.

Les

Les, does it matter which entry type we choose - judging or parking? Greg E

Greg,

Yes, it has to be judging (as it was last year) so that we all park in the allocated area.  Yes, it costs a whole five dollars more but I think that it is worth it.

Same price Les. Its only five dollars less if you are a vw club member. I just wanted to make sure there was no trouble at the gate. Greg E

O.k. just registered. The system actually "unclicks" judging when you select syncro. Thanks. Greg E

Entry Costs DOVW 2012

Members of the Volkswagen Club of Victoria

Pre-registration                     Car entered for judging       $20
Pre-registration                     Car parking only                  $20

Non-Members of the Volkswagen Club of Victoria

Pre-registration                     Car entered for judging       $25
Pre-registration                     Car parking only                  $25

Parking only (no judging and same price as walk in people.)

Members and non Members

Entry price includes entry for two adults and one car.

Pre Entry Closes Friday 9th of November 2012

Members = $20

Non-members = $25

Judging puts you in the allocated area for the T3 Syncros

Non-judging = car parking only = on the eastern side of the buildings and in with everything else, on the opposite side to the T3 Syncro area.

The special entry gate is 98% probable (we have to get volunteers to man this gate) and you drive off the main road directly into the T3 Syncro area – so long as you have the judging sticker.

I just did a trial run and it goes through.  There could be something awry with the webpage nomenclature.

I started from here:

Pre registration links

Click here for VWCV members Pre registration

Click here for non VWCV Pre registration

I clicked on the highlighted link and was able to enter a fictitious name, checked “SYNCRO ALL MODELS”. which then progressed to “Register”.

Try that and me know.

Hi Folks
I'm sorry to say that despite all of Les's efforts  I cannot see how I can get to DOTVW this year, just as I though I would be in with a chance with a concours winning vehicle.

I have long committed myself to this year's Great Victorian Bike Ride which is particularly appealing in going from Lakes Entrance to Phillip Island. The DOTVW is surely later than in previous years? The problem is that whilst I could take the DOTVW out of the tour, I should  have arrived in the remote town of Bruthen several hundreds of kilometres away in far East Gippsland by the Saturday night. I believe it  is without any public transport that could get me  to and from Melbourne and I certainly couldn't cycle it without some performance enhancing vegemite or the like. I'd also  need to get my bike and gear moved up to Briagolong to be ready to return to the route on the Monday morning.
I'm talking to Bicycle Victoria to see if there are any cars coming up and going back that could take me but its not looking good. Don't suppose you are Brian within these tight deadlines ?
It obviously also has ramifications which have prevented me offering to get  Phil to and from Lilydale.   I'm  somewhat reluctant to lend the new T5 and may have sold the T3 by then.
I'll get back if someone can suggest a cunning plan or I can arrange something with bicycle Victoria but its not looking very likely. I'm sorry not to be there as I've enjoyed your company and vehicles on previous "Days"

On a positive note I'm getting to the end of some major renovations to my house which should allow me to come up  with a plan for the Tasmanian trip by the end of next week so that we can finalise starters and minimise similar clashes.

Enjoy your DOTVW.
Cheers

Roger
