Thanks, I will try that first.  Fraser was pretty much the same as the last time I was there about 11 years ago.

Neil,

I have found you can just attach them to your email. That works for  me but not others.

I have never been able to post pictures on the site despite a few attempts. Ben C is fairly good at it - he may be able to explain the process and I can listen in on the tutorial.

I am very keen to do the Fraser Island trip with the Boss & the kids - I wonder if its any different to what it was like about 17 years ago when the Boss and I did it?

Cheers,

Skot

Yes he is still a friend, just made me cringe on the day.  Nothing went "Bang" and we have since done about 3000k's on the honeymoon so I guess we got away with it although if any of the shafts got twisted I probably wouldn't know yet.
I should have given him instruction on it , I just thought I wouldn't complicate matters by telling him things I didn't think he needed to know.
Thanks for the congrats. Roger, no I thought Cape York may be too much adventure for a honeymoon and too much on our own.  Also, it was a long way to go in two weeks and we needed some R&R after the wedding. We went to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.
We did go to Fraser Island though for a little bit of adventure.
I will post pictures but can someone please remind me how to do that on this forum since I haven't done it before?

Thanks,

Neil.

I wonder how long you can get away with driving on the road with difflocks engaged.  I recently got married and we had a friend drive my wife to the church and afterwards both of us to the reception in my kombi.
I had thought about taping up the difflock knob for safety but then decided not to worry since there was no reason for anyone to pull out the knob.
Everything was fine, they arrived at the church on time after having done a tour around Manly to take extra photos then after the service we all got in to be driven to the reception.  The driver proceeded to do a three point turn on the concrete in the carpark of the church and I noticed straight away that the engine was labouring as if the handbrake was on.  It wasn't, next I looked at the difflock knob and saw in horror that it was out!  I calmly told him that it needed to be pushed in.  He completed the three point turn working very hard at the steering then pulled out into the street and turned hard right.  It didn't unlock until further up the street.  I don't know how long it had been engaged but I was afraid to use it for some time after that in case something was ready to break.

Roger,

This is owned by Ade Burgermeister of Ferntree Gully.  He appeared late in the day and started to ask me questions about diff locks.  It transpired hat he had recently bought a dual cab Syncro with front and rear locks.  Everything that he said suggested that he was driving with both diff locks engaged!!!!!

He was parked where you saw it, so I packed up preparatory to driving him back to his vehicle.

Fortunately, we stopped to talk to Mark Boys before we moved – and found that Mark had owned this vehicle not too many years back.  I left him with Mark to look at the vehicle and give Ade some basic instruction on diff locks!!

Did others notice the white1989 twin cab T3 syncro for sale in the car park on the way out? Had a winch on the front. I wrote down the phone numbers if anyone is interested namely 0397581665 or 0438029651 but know nothing else about it/its owner. It looked to me like it could make a good off road vehicle rather than a concours winner.but I would have preferred to have seen matched tread patterns on the front and rear tyres.Talk to Mark about buying his latest acquisition and you might be able to get yourself twin, twin cabs for on and off road. I'll have to suggest to DotVW that next year they have a special categary for twins driving twin twin cabs.

Let us know if anyone follows it up.

Cheers.

I have dual lock on my tristar look alike ;-) When the engage knob is pulled I only see the indicator light is just on instead of flashing.

Mine is '87 with factory diff lock.

I have a front diff lock and found that it’s almost impossible to steer the syncro on hard ground with the front lock engaged. When the knob is pulled to engage the front lock the engage indicator light above the knob keeps flashing to warn that it is engaged.  With these two factors operating one would certainly know that the front diff lock was engaged.  If these were not evident then perhaps the diff lock mechanism is not operating.

Scott,

We only went as far North as the Maheno wreck as my alternator packed up the day we got onto the island and I wasn't sure how long or how many starts we had left so only stayed one night.  It was very quiet and we camped along the beach.  I was very concious that we were by ourselves with no alternator, two broken CV boots (taped up) and we had witnessed many vehicles getting stuck in the soft sand so I decided not to push my luck any further.   We didn't go to Central Station but it is designated as a camp site on the map they gave us so I think you can.  Wedding pics coming, having trouble with computer,

Neil,

My boss and I had a kind of similar problem on Moreton Island where with our tyres very low we had the front drivers side skewered on the first day we were there. I didn't have a suitable spare so we just kept pumping it up with my then $30 compressor - easily laster 2 days on the island - its a small island so we went everywhere in that 2 days then got on the ferry and used their big compressor to pump the tyres up.

Funny thing was the ferry was called the Combie trader!!

We went straight off the ferry to the nearest tyre place where the tyre was repaired.

We now have BFG's - so hopefully no more probs in that department.

Cheers,

Dear Skot,
Read on another forum(Overland I think) of people finding their tyres flat after letting them down for sand. It particularly was said to happen with BFG tyres and the suggestion was that the bead on the tyres that protects them caused a build up of dirt or sand that forced its way into the rim and deflated the tyre. Anyone experienced it? May be worth bearing in mind if you ever suffer this problem but hope you don't.

Cheers,

Skot

Hi Roger,

It's very interesting that you mention that because after getting off the barge at Inskip Point, I was too lazy to get out my compressor so we drove very slowly ( about 30-40k ) back to Rainbow Beach to reinflate the tyres.  The road was extremely hot and I normally never do this but everyone else seems to get away with it so I thought it would be ok.  Well, we blew the sidewall out of one front tyre before we made the 10 or so kays.  The tyre was too hot to touch and I could barely handle it to get it off.  The other tyres were just warm.  The pressure had been at 10 psi but I wondered if that particular tyre had lost pressure as we drove along the road for some reason.  Perhaps sand had worked it's way into the bead as you say and burped air out as we drove lowering the pressure further until it was flat.   I have never had a BFG fail before and I still think they are the best that money can buy.  I still haven't replaced it because I am so angry with myself for being so stupid.  I have had a tyre go flat before due to a stick in the bead and once the stick was removed the tyre was fine.

Neil.

Cheers.

Roger

Dear Skot,
Read on another forum(Overland I think) of people finding their tyres flat after letting them down for sand.
Roger

Cheers,

Skot

Neil.

Neil,

Can you still camp @ Central Station?

I heard a rumour that it was closed for camping now.

How far north did you go?

Thanks, I will try that first.  Fraser was pretty much the same as the last time I was there about 11 years ago.

Neil,

I have found you can just attach them to your email. That works for  me but not others.

I have never been able to post pictures on the site despite a few attempts. Ben C is fairly good at it - he may be able to explain the process and I can listen in on the tutorial.

I am very keen to do the Fraser Island trip with the Boss & the kids - I wonder if its any different to what it was like about 17 years ago when the Boss and I did it?

Cheers,

Skot
