DOTVW

Hi Greg and all,

Sorry I've been a bit behind in keeping up with the list lately. DotVW pre-registrations are now open on the VW Club site http://www.vwclub.com.au/ . If you want to park on site with the Syncro group you have to register for the show and shine, but we'll be judging the Syncro's ourselves (me and Les; all bribes cheerfully accepted), so how enthusiastic you want to be is entirely up to you. There are incentives for pre-registering (see Site) or alternatively, walk in entry is $10/head.

Latest news on the pre-event camping (Saturday evening) is that we can camp on site, and it will be in the actual display location so we don't have to move in the morning. It is apparently a nice grassed area and quite close to the toilets (but no showers available). Power will also be available. The downside is that the venue makes a charge of $20 (which is on top of the show admission) and this must be paid before-hand. Unfortunately, it is not possible to include this payment with your pre-registration, so those intending to camp (especially interstate visitors) please pmail me so I can send you the payment details. You can still pre-register independant of making this payment.

Hope we see a good Syncro turnout on the 21st.

Brian

Greg,

For the benefit of the under-privileged Syncro owners around Australia who don’t have a DOTVW like the Victorian event, could you please give us a rundown on the 2014 DOTVW?

BTW, this also marked the 60th year of the VW Club of Victoria .  It has been running continuously for 60 years and the entire history of its meetings and events are on record.  As far as we can tell, it is by far the oldest VW club in the world.

Les

Hi Les, Unfortunately I missed the Saturday run down to Williamstown, however I believe Gerald was there he may be able to talk about that.
There was a fair bit of rain on the Sunday in the a.m. but it didn't damped the enthusiasm too much. From about 10am the place filled up and there were breaks in the showers. We had four syncros' a t5 camper and a 2wd t3. Lots of chin wagging and cups of tea. Greg

Hi, At the cavalcade from Essendon to Williamstown last Saturday the VW Club had a VW for (almost) every year: 1954 to 2014. The weather was fine, and the event was well organised. Every car/driver was issued with a very shiny medallion, and numberplate size signs that they stuck to the windows denoting the year of manufacture. At 10am we then drove in convoy to Williamstown.....I was very nervous on the Bolte Bridge , but we all arrived in one piece at the large Seaworks shed where we were arranged in years. There was one Syncro, and 5 2WD's amongst an array of Beetles, Kombis and Golfs.
There were lots of memorabilia, large historic photos, posters and static
vehicle displays celebrating 60 years of Volkswagen in Australia .
Thanks to VW Club of Victoria for staging such an historic event.

Because I moved interstate at fairly short notice not long before the DOTVW, the organization got dropped in Greg’s lap at even shorter notice.  Our thanks are due to Greg for taking it up.

The low turn-out is a worry, particularly given that we were fielding 10 to 12 in recent years.  Whilst I am still a member of the VW Club of Victoria , maintaining or choice spot might become rather difficult.

Nonetheless, Greg did a very good job and many thanks for that.

Greg

Hi Les
I think there was professional video of the cavalcade taken from an escort car. I wonder if it might be made available in due course. Gerald. --------------------------------------------

Gerald,

The VW Club of Victoria does make extensive videos of all events, which become available to members.

Brian Reed establish the contact between our group and the club a long time back and I have continued that since Brian moved to the far east of the state.

There are considerable benefits in being a member of the club for Syncro owners.  It gives them access to and close support from Lloyd Davies (Volks Werke) and John Goodison (Volks Home); Volks Werke is a high end workshop in Greensborough and Volks Home is both a workshop and a very reliable supplier of parts.

The relatively small annual membership fee guarantees a direct line of support to these two places.  I would urge all Victorian members to join.  Whilst I am now living in NSW, I will remain a member for these reasons.

Les

Hi Les
I think there was professional video of the cavalcade taken from an escort car. I wonder if it might be made available in due course. Gerald.
