Totally agree Richard.
I would suggest the greens would be very keen to remove all access to fossil fuels so this current green wave is extremely concerning.

I saw that Jon,
Still worries me is is pushing massive torque through a stock VW gearbox.
How long will that last.
I still think the infrastructure in Australia’s vast open roads is not ready for electric vehicles. In Europe it may be suitable as there are towns everywhere that could have charging setup for this that are happy to wait hours for their vehicle to charge.
Maybe a hybrid syncro would be more useful in Australia?
At some point batteries will either be very fast to charge, or standardise on a battery design that makes them swap and go at a servo?
I’m sure the same debates happened when petrol engines were gaining favour.
You know what happened to the dinosaurs Ken?
Mmmmmm … so Richard, the two ICE vehicles parked in our garage + jerry cans of fuel for the past 43 years, the original 43yo garage door hasn’t yet suffered the same fate as the garage door in the video. Wonder why eh. Must be just plain lucky I’m guessing.
I think a fair comparison would be to look at ICE vehicles in the late 1800’s when it was still new. I can only guess there were many accidents with poor storage of petrol, long before proper evaporative control systems were used.
Even steam engines had their issues with poor boiler designs from the mid 1800’s. Plenty of them exploded before better manufacturing processes were developed for them.
Any new technology has its teething issues which get designed out over time.
There’s an unwritten rule one should NEVER buy the first model of anything … and in the EV case, even a LOT longer!
