Engine Conversion

Hello,
I'd be glad to hear from anyone who's done an engine conversion using
the Toyota 2CT or 3CT engine into their synco.

The Toyota Minivan - Lucida also known as the Estima in some markets
carry an engine which is not pretty like the Subaru but would fit in a
Syncro.
I am speaking theoretically, but I am about to make that conversion.

So write me...let's colaborate

Greg
Greg,

Get onto the South Africa Syncro.  They have a lot of them with this conversion.

Hi Greg,

well, i am wondering that nearly every syncronaut except the european
ones won´t install a turbodiesel-engine.

Imho a turbodiesel has only advantages:

1) strong torque from idle speed
2) low fuel consumption
3) nearly insensible against spray water

My 16" Syncro had a wbx-motor installed and i replaced it with a 5-
cylinder turbodiesel from the old audi 100/200. The motor is running
great!

My girl-friends syncro has a TDI 4-cylinder (motor-code 1Z from the
vw golf 3) with a mechanical injection-system, turbocharger from the
1,6 liter golf gtd (water cooled turbo charger) and a water cooled
aircooler.

To compare benzin-engines (we are not talking about V8-Motors) and a
turbodiesel: if you are driving offroad the turbodiesel has a great
advantage with its nice torque curve.

If you have further questions, just let me know,

The only diesel engines available here are Golf 1977-1980 1.5 litre
and a few 1.9 TDI from 1996 (only about 10 imported)

There are no Audi diesels here and no T25 diesels.

Hi

Stay away from the 2ct many heating problems not powerful enough. The 3 ct is great although not the best for sustained high speed driving. Top speed is limited to about 100 Km/h anything over that the engine is not happy,(revs too high.)  Off road it performs exceptionally well - much better than the 2.1 Wasserboxer. Exceptional torque, good economy and minimal electronics to get wet or go wrong. I have spent a lot time researching various engines as mine has blown up. I ruled this out as I travel long distances mostly on tar and our national speed limit is 120 km/h. I like to cruise at 120 for hours on end, going to 140 to overtake.

I'm currently leaning towards an audi V6 2.6 - but this may change. I have owned a 2.1 flat 4, an audi 2.6 5 cylinder and the one that blew up now was a Golf 2.0 straight 4. This is my second choice if the v6 proves too costly.

Good luck - after which tyre works best the engine choice illicits huge volumes of discussion! There isn't a perfect solution depends on your usage etc.
