Engine Install Alignment Problem

Anyone got any tips?

I have the new EJ25 engine lifted up and lined up sitting parallel to the gearbox.

It is supported by a sling from above and a jack underneath.

The gearbox main shaft has gone into the clutch OK and the big starter gear is just inside the gearbox housing.

It is sooo close, but it wont go any further....

No amount if jiggling seems to work. The spline wont go in...

The converter plate has already been fitted to this gearbox (EJ22) so that is OK.

When I bolted the clutch plate I used a dummy shaft so the spline and clutch where well centered.

What is stopping it??

Is your starter motor still fitted ?

Spline on the input shaft may have not engaged the clutch properly, back it out slightly and turn the motor a bit. Try again,

If its that close the spline should already be in ?

The light of a new day!
I pulled the engine out a bit and rotated the starter gear using a socket wrench. Kept doing this in 10 degree increments and then it slid in place like a finger up a ???!!

Now for all the fun stuff...this is getting really exciting :-)

thanks all
Well done.

I think that may have been your problem. its best to mate the gearbox and donk without the starter in. Then lower the whole metal lump bolted together so you can fit the starter.

Then raise back up into place and bolt to the chassis. Its hard enough to get the spline to align without the starter as well sticking it nose in the way.

A cow of a job but now you have done the worst of it.

Great move going from a 2.2 to a 2.5L as they are a much better suit to the size of a syncro.

Cheers,
Skot
