Vacuum is max when the engine is idling and then least at full revs.
Maybe an AFM issue?

Hi All ,
Went South in WA to Walpole area .Went to Broke Inlet and did about 300km beach work , Lot of surprised people to see a Bus at places they thought were for only for 4 x 4s.
On the Way back I took a rest stop near Bunbury. When I wanted to leave the bus would not start due to the immobiliser malfunctioning , tried the overide coded - no luck.Ripped the thing out and did a temporary rewire and got home safe.
Rewired the vehicle at home.
The motor is the 2.1 and the vehicle starts , idles and drives perfectly. When I take off, all is well , but as soon as I back off the accelerator the vehicle jerks and carrys on perfectly and as I accelerate it shoots forward and then carrys on perfectly. In other words there is only a problem during the transition between accelerating and deccelerating, otherwise all is well. All help appreciatedCheersPhilippe

for whatever it's worth ..I have found up to 10 tiny vacuum leaks on a waterboxer engine.
I suggest listening around carefully with a 'listening tube' ..a hose held to your ear.
that's a fine 'instrument'.
In general..I would collect diagnostic equipment. I find fine things used ..or even free.
it's a rare day when I pull out a vaccuum gaage ..but it's nice to know I can.
the ECU opeates a lot on measuring air. *everything about air' has to be spot on.
your resistnace reading at idle on the TB switches should be zero ohms as far as I'm concerned.
I never actually measure the resistance...I just check for continuity.
in an extreme case I would check it all the way to the ecu connector plug.
WOT is not that important ..though that's nice to have too.
your simptoms remind me of a case I had on a personal T3 van of mine..2.1 engine.
it would cut out and stumble..
just turing the key off and back on would 'reset' things and I'd get another kilometer or ok running..
until it did it again.
I 'reset' it that way ..in gear ..turning key off and back on about 20 times to get 5 miles home..
in the end ..it was the Hall Sender in the distributor.
I really like to read the millivots on the 02 sensor wire while it's running warmed up.
I like to see swinging volatge...like .3 to .8 volts..or 300 to 800 millivolts .
if its' say 500 steady ..it's dead, or lazy.
a fine test for any weird running is to just disconnect the 02.
it won't hurt anything..
and puts things into a more basic mode.
if it works bettter that way ..that tells you something.
Temp Sensor II should always be considered..and contact to it.
btw..you know about 'vanagon syndrome' right ?
'google it.
rare to actually experience..but must be considered.
I keep the adappter harness on all my personal Vans for that that glitch.

I'll sell the domain name too.
Hi Scott,Have checked vacuum lines ,replaced 2 (both had a small hole) , all seems okay as have no instruments to check properly.
Checked AFM and got readings as described in the Bentley.
Removed throttle body ,cannot see much wear or movement of internal part ,cleaned vacuum port .Micro switch clicks at idle and again at WOT.Cam looks fine ,no movement of cam shaft.According to a Samba member the readings of the micro switch should read 0L at idle and at WOT .My readings are about 60k at idle and 20k at WOT.I can hear the clicks as I move the accelerator shaft.Have swapped the O sensor - no difference
Have started the vehicle and it sounds and idles well, when I apply half throttle while the vehicle is standing ,it starts hunting.CheersPhilippe

If you live in NSW,
the VIN and engine numbers are on your rego.
I think the colour is there too.
You can transfer the rego,
but If the transfer of rego is not all done properly,
then it is an offence.
Sorry.
Hope you were joking.

Hi Scott,Have found a donor vehicle from the Syncro site that lives close to me.
Have looked for leaks with propane - none
Swapped out Temp II coolant sensor - no luck
Swapped out AFM - no luck
Have disconnected O2 sensor - no luck
Will swap out throttle body on Saturday - if no luck swap ignition leads
If nothing - swap License plates and drive off
Cheers
Philippe

Hi Scott
Was on the way to swap out the throttle body , but the vehicle ran perfectly and has not missed a beat since. As i have swapped the AFM and there was no improvement , checked all that you have suggested and had no joy,i have ordered the vacuum operated throttle switch from Gowesty.
Water pump is now leaking, have ordered one , any installation pointers would be appreciated
Cheers
