Sorry to drag out this topic again, but brands and offerings keep changing, importers change brans, environmental requirements mean specs are constantly updating.
What are people using for oil and coolant?
Coolant I have been using Febi to date, but not sure if anyone sells it locally. Where I have bought from in the past now sell Ravenol, but the ingredients look different (to meet newer specs)
Oil I have been using Shell, but less places stock it now, and it doesn’t seem to be great oil anymore.
For both Penrite seems to have a few alternatives, and easily available.
Overseas reviews are not great as the products are not often sold here.
Morning Richard,
can of worms subject and always good for some entertainment - probably should get some popcorn
For coolant, important is first that you do not mix different kinds, though manufacturer say its possible. But the risk for clogging up the system is too great imo.
First of all, do a proper flush of the coolant system! Running some coolant flush (neutralizer) may not be a bad idea.
For refill, I stick to G11 as it was recommended back in the day (either blue or green one, Blue one was used from factory). I know many go for the G12+ option (pink), personally I don’t see the point.
Have been using products from Penrite and haven’t had an issue so far.
As for oil I have done the switch to a full synthetic oil with my rebuild. The engine seems to be running now at a lower temperature (less friction), which has also been confirmed by a another friend of mine who switched over as well (you probably know Peter from Melb. - not in this forum).
Running now Penrite HPR15 15W60
That’s my 5 cents to this subject
Cheers
Arne
