Fitted new gas struts to my Trakka pop-top roof !

Gday Murray and ALL,

Since we last discussed this topic, I've put in a lot of effort,
research, experimentation, problem solving etc., objective being to do
this project myself and figure out how to remove and replace the gas
struts on my Trakka pop-top. As you know, the 18 year old ones were
getting pretty saggy and not much fun at all to use, hence the
motivation.

Well I can say I've learnt a lot along the way, it's been frustrating at
times but still kept focus, so happy now to say I successfully replaced
the gas struts yesterday. And what a joy it was to use the new ones for
the first time, it has actually transformed the pop-top raising/lowering
process from something painful and annoying to a very easy, effective,
controlled, stable and even fascinating process ... I almost can't
believe it!

This was achieved from home, no need to chase about for stuff, the
struts simply arrived in the mail. I didn't use any specialised tools to
do the hands on bit, just tools and stuff in my home workshop and nut it
all out. However, be willing to set aside a fair chunk of time.

So heh ... now I'm excited about my pop-top! Anyone else in the same
predicament, I thoroughly recommend this upgrade project.

Cheers.

Ken

Hi Ken,

I need this upgrade to my Trakka pop-top also.  Could you please give  details of the struts and supplier etc.

Rick, or anyone else,

Numbers are growing for Day of the VW on Nov 16th (11 so far, including 2 vans/4 people from Sydney). Do we have any firm details for the Bateman’s Bay trip in January that we can pass on to people there, some of whom may not be on the forum? Better yet, some form of flyer we could print up.

Ken,

Well done old son, I am impressed. Even helping the 'expert' do it was enough for me.

Cheers M

Hi Ken, I'm in the same predicament...

Can you please forward me the details on who you used and where you
got them from. happy to order online instead of having to run around
to spare parts places.

My problem is a little more difficult in that I've put a solar panel
on the roof which means its now a bit heavier and needs extra force
to raise the roof. have the specs and dimensions so know what I need
(I think).

Anyway, any assistance from your research and findings, especially
where you sourced them from, gratefully accepted.

Many thanks,

Ronnie

Gday ALL,

I've had two responses so far, Yurik and Ronnie, wanting to replace
their sagging Trakka pop-top struts and I am communicating with them
individually to ascertain their own particular circumstances, as that
has a bearing on the specs of the struts they need.

Given it's the run-down to the Xmas holidays business closures, may I
suggest if you want new pop-top struts for your Trakka, better register
your interest here asap so I can pmail you and help sort out your
circumstances at the same time as for Yurik and Ronnie.

Cheers.

Ken
