The Bentley is very hard to understand, but it appears that you can only do this on early models. Bentley does not mention the later ones. I wonder if I can cut part of the body of the CV to give enough clearance to get the bearing housing off the ball joint? ........either that or sell the thing.

Phil,
Persevere with removing the CV before doing anything drastic. You no doubt tried many techniques however using a good heavy puller is the proper solution. The attached photo is a simulation as the bearing housing has been removed however it does show the type of puller I used. The usual preparation is soaking the splines with penetration oil and then when screwing up the puller to a high tension, a good impact with a hammer on the head of the screw creates radial shock that can loosen the seized splines. You may need to repeat this several times.
