Front diff

Hi All / Greg,

Has anybody taken the front g/box / diff out ?? Any tips what to remove ? Can't find any
mention in Bentleys. Like to replace bearings as it starts to make a noise once decoupler is engaged.

Hart,

I will dob Ben in here - he has pulled most of his van apart now and I remember him having troubles with the front diff mounts.

He would be a good starting point.

Dont forget to disconnect your speedo cable!

Cheers,

Skot

Hi Hartmut,
No idea re your query but Rudi R&R'd mine in 2007 and he appreciated that I'd already placed alignment marks on all mating mount surfaces to do with the front diff using white enamel paint. This made the accurate re-positioning on install simpler.

Give your car a good wash up front underneath before u start.

Jack front of car up and place on stands.

Get some crc onto all nuts that will be removed.

Remove tail shaft  protection bars and tail shaft/ carefull with the tailshaft bolts not to round them off.

Undo front inner cvs and cover and tie up away.
Loosed fill and drainpugs before completely undoing.
Remove front diff front centre bolt.
Remove rear bolts and cross brace of front diff.
Push diff forward and tail shaft will drop down.
Remove speedo.
Remove breather.
Remove front diff rear wards.

Hi Guys,  thank you all for your words of wisdom, encouragment, tips, and guidance, and also Hamish for the correct sequence of events to release the box from the vehicle. Will keep you informed what had to be done to it.

Hi Hart, Sorry your having troubles, not bad for 400,000kms though! Did the noise change as you got on and off the throttle? Are you sending the whole unit out for reco? Greg E

Hi Greg
Noticed an ever so little whining noise when engaging the front and know from  experience that the damage is only half as bad if attended to straight way .
Also pull the gearbox out to have plumbing for cooling installed. And to top it off, sending the Wbx for a complete rebuild . (no,didn't win the lotto ) Hartmut
