Front Driveshaft outer CV boot - Suppliers ?

Hi all,

As we all know, it is getting harder to find parts for the Syncro.

I am trying to locate a boot for the front outer CV for a pre mid 89 Syncro,
P/N 251 498 203A (251 498 203F for mid 89 onwards).

I found the "F" version but there is a difference: The later CV joint has a grove and the boot a matching lip on the wheel side of the boot, the clamps also differ.

Does anyone know who in Oz is the most likely stockist of the above or any Syncro parts in general ?

All suggestions welcome.

Cheers

Hans

Why not just replace the CV for the later type?
Hallo Hans,

Die ersten Syncros sind hier 1988 angekommen and that’s why we would only have ‘F’s in the country. Have you tried South Africa ? They should have the right ones for you.

Fully agree Phil, that’s what we would do and these are the privileges of life in a frontier country. You can’t do that
in old Europe (maybe in Italy or Greece and in all EasternCountries for sure.)

Also , if a groove is needed to fit the boot and there is none, we would machine one in.

Hi Hartmut,

My Syncro is actually an Australian delivered unit, a 1989 model, Chasis No. ...KG04xxx2.
These units still have the earlier outer CV and boot.

Yes, I could replace the whole CV joint with the later type but the CV is still good, however, perhaps this will have to be the option to go for.

Can anyone suggest a good source for Syncro parts locally in Oz ?

Cheers

Hans

Hart, are you sure that you have the early (original) CVs? Yours would have been replaced at some stage and the early type were discontinued many years ago.

Phil , it wasn't me but Hans who said that he had a good original one without the undercut
4mm wide by 0.5 mm deep. My reasoning is that one should modernise the driveshaft by cutting in the groove to fit the now supplied boots.
Took my spare apart  10mins ago to check if that would be feasible, and yes, easy job even on my smallish lathe. One could clamp the splined end in the 3yaw and have the shaft in a steady.

Hey folks,

Does anyone else want a rear ladder?

Ian has 5 in stock ready to ship if anyone is keen.

Let me know.
