Fuel Leak

Had a dreaded fuel leak over the weekend. The main line in the engine bay that comes out near the firewall. Temp fix but now want to do all the lines. Don't want a fire!!!

Anyone had a go at the lines that go over the fuel tank with dropping the tank?

I like the GoWesty kit.

Never done this Peter.

But tank dropping is a big job as the lower frame and the gearbox needs to come out.

I dont think you can really get to them properly without removing the tank.

Best of luck.

Cheers,

Scott

Unless the fuel line is tethered some place above the tank, you should be able to attach a new hose to the old hose and with some help pull it through.

The hose from the petrol pump to the engine is impossible to replace without dropping the transmission and fuel tank, so I just bypassed it with a new one. No more problems.

Make sure you buy the best quality EFI hose - I bought some from "Supercheap" that only lasted a year in the engine compartment before it perished from heat and started to leak. Then I bought quality hose from Repco, and insulated it. That was several years ago. I check it for crazing and perishing every time I look at the engine, but it still looks fine.

I have a GoWesty kit sitting on the shelf, waiting for the day the gearbox comes out.

Roger.
Glad you found that and could fix it Peter!

I used the kit from Vancafe, most likely the same or similar to Go westy.
As Peter said, I have heard of people using the old hose to pull new ones through. When I look at the top of my tank, it would not have been possible how it was mounted/secured. Maybe this varied year to year.
In my old photo, it was the valves in the top of the tank on mine that failed (well the gasket around them). If your hoses are failing, these valves would not be far behind them.
Painful job, but worthwhile in the long run. I used it as a chance to clean out underthere and paint/rustproof also!

If you get that far, it's also a good time to replace the gaskets on the fuel gauge sender and the return hose inside the tank!

Yes you can pull the fuel line through, I did it on the Syncro that Peter now has.

Thanks Roger. Go Westy kit is on its way. Got one ordered for Hart as well and new abrasion covers. I am going to see if I can get the lines through. Worth a try. If unsuccessful, may re-route them. Will report back in due course. Peter from Port
