Dear Francesca,

I fear I am turning into a little old lady as I also considered an automatic Caddy a while back for much the same reasons and applications you mention. Looked through my odds and bods of publications but don't seem to have kept anything other than a May 2006 "The Caddy Life"  and a July 2008 "People Movers" VW Brochures neither of which had any information on the camper vehicles. I think it was this and general dealer indifference at the time that caused me to lose interest in pursuing it and continue to celebrate the unique qualities of the T3 Syncro. Let me know if you would like either or both of the brochures I can either leave them in my letterbox or you could call in for them if you still go past my door.
I thought I read a report of them being considered rather unrefined and van rather than car like in their dynamics but don't think that is a universal opinion. One of my son's clients just replaced one in favour of the latest T5 and was very happy with the economy, resale price and reliability of it for city deliveries.

There is an Australian Caddy forum at

which includes news photos and details of the about to be released new Caddy promising 21% more economy and a new T5 type family face.
Finally if you go round the Edinborough Gardens where we had our recent meeting there is usually a grey Life one parked by the primary school. Perhaps a note under the wiper might elicit some first hand opinion.

Good luck - am currently looking at a grey market toyota import with wheelchair raising facility for my 94/96 yo parents.Mum's confined to a wheelchair and Dad needs a good push to get him into the T3.

Cheers
Roger

Hi there,

I thought I'd ask whether any of you VW people have any knowledge of or opinion on the Caddy Life 2KN campers. My mother is in the process of selling up her Subaru Forrester in favour of something she can do some travelling in. Ideally she would like something that she could do a little off-road stuff with to get to beautiful places, but I'm trying to convince her to get something that would suit her as an everyday, town car as well for an ageing driver. I reckon the larger footprint of the T4 might  be a bit of a challenge for her at this stage, and I've warned her off T3 Syncros as too high maintenance! She likes the idea of a light and simple fitout, which the Caddy Life campers seem to have.

Thanks,

Francesca.
