Fw: [Syncro] Digest Number 5615 vibration problems.

Phil do you already access this site? Any of these experiences/solutions of any help for your imbalance problem. I can understand the frustration particularly at such a low mileage but am sure you will successfully persevere. Don't they say " If at first you don't succeed then perhaps sky diving is not for you"
Good luck.

I had vibration problems once and removing the prop shaft didn't cure
everything. We found an outer front CV that was very stiff. It wasn't
apparent until the axle was removed. I think it was making the front
diff strain in the mounts and putting vibes into the van, if that makes
sense. Anyway, new axles made the ride smooth.

All:

I feel the vibration in the seat and the steering wheel. The best ways I can describe the vibration is that it is like the "Magic Fingers" in cheap motel rooms, or an out of balance fan. It is not the radiator fan nor is it the heater fan.

I have confirmed that all four axels are not rubbing on anything. I also verified that I did not leave a bolt in the transaxle or front differential after I removed the driveshaft.

Is there anyone in the Knoxville, Tennessee area that would like to go for a ride and help diagnose this vibration???

Years ago I had this same problem with a '91 tintop where I did pretty much as you have done plus more, including all new axles front and rear, new VW propshaft (they were still available) as well as shimming the front diff. to get the "proper" flange angle with no success. Dropping the propshaft did nothing in removing the "magic fingers" between 45 and 55. My VC was also aggressive and after replacing it and reassembling everything using what is now known as the "Van-Cafe" method of alignment, the problem went away. I could only assume that the VC was out of balance although I never tested to confirm this.

Dan,

Has wheel/tire imbalance been eliminated, or bent wheel-rim?

Hi Phill,

when I had vibration issues after lifting the van I went through all manner of options. After eliminating driveshaft and all cv's at great expense, my mechanic put it on the hoist and ran the syncro in gear.
No vibration meant it was the tyres that were the culprit.
Not so old Cooper ATR's that we didn't suspect.

Mark
Mark. My brother had the same problem with coopers. Shook the hell out a his nissan and they couldn't balance them. Bill

Have tried a different set of tyres/wheels.

Phill

P.S. Someone at Valla asked me about a cruise control interface.

Anyone on here? (Memory problems)

I had Cooper ST's on my Holden Rodeo and had similar problems with getting them balanced and the wheel alignment was a real task getting right.. So no more Coopers for me...

I have seen several sets of their AT tyre replaced under warranty by Coopers for having chunks of tread come off! Long live BF Goodrich.

At the risk of sounding perverse I've been pleased with the (mainly on road) performance of my Cooper H/T tyres. On road is their bias and this was apparent on the steepest, loosest and most rocky section of the recent Rover Track excursion. However as the attached 2 photos show they were tackling a section that from looking at the angle of the chassis would have been around 45degrees.It was fun though.
By the was anyone able to open my second sending using photobucket of my Valla 2012 photos.

Not yet.

Rear axle is next, but it may take a couple of months before I get time to try it.
