FW: [Syncro_T3_Australia] 25 years Mammut Park

Alf,
So having attended this momentous syncro event and bearing in mind the event organisers spirited pursuit of a design competition for a modern replacement VAG Syncro which, if it comes about will quickly kill off T3 ownership and service/parts support worldwide, might this celebratory event prove in time to in fact represent the turning point/deathknell of our much loved and unique syncro transporters?
Cheers.

Ken

Hi all
Well, we think we know something about syncros, let me tell you something we know very little and have seen nothing, I have just come back from mammut park, where there were about 500 syncros, all different, with there own little personnel touchs, they came from all corners of Europe, I spoke some time with Jean Louie Brion (busmans engine man) about TDI engines and gear box to suit,he uses a lot of Albins gears, I also spoke to Mike (the busman) very briefly, he was very busy with his cut down syncro doing tours. The offroad section was unbelievable, as you have already seen on u tube, there was cars going in all direction, and plenty of them. My little memory stick in my head is over loaded.

Hi Ken

I am not sure what you are saying, all i can say that the syncro in Europe is very strong and growing, this event has grown by nearly 100 cars the last 3 years, the tristar scene is mind blowing, parts scene unbelievable but expensive. The fact that they can get 500 T3 Syncros together, and some travelled 1000 of km to get there tells me T3 is alive well, they were talking about next year.

Alf,
Had I attended the event it would have been with mixed feelings given what I plainly stated and asked you about in my first post.

For all those here not up to speed on this topic, then simply read and digest "contest 2" concerning this significant and worriesome and premeditated planning associated with this 25 years young celebratory T3 event.
Goto: http://www.syncro25years.eu/En/index.htm This website has been up for some considerable time and the subject and promo thread for the event, even drawn to our attention on this forum a number of times prior by Mike Plompen, a leading light in this events organisation.

Had he and you had the time to discuss "contest 2" face to face, perhaps your reply to me could well have been very different.
Cheers.

Design contest
Of all the types of buses that have been built by VW Nutzfahrzeuge , we consider the T3 Syncro to be the ultimate "Bulli". Not only because of its bricklike design, but also due to the specifications of the vehicle.
When you look at the usable interior space, VW has never built a bigger bus. When you look at its off-road capabilities, VW has built a vehicle that sometimes outperforms Land Rovers. In terms of ride comfort, there was nothing comparable at that time, with its fantastic road holding even on snow and its comfortable ride with its independent suspension.
Even today, there is no such vehicle that combines the versatile characteristics of the Syncro T3. A vehicle that's no bigger than a VW Passat.
We know a lot of you like to say "They don't build cars like this any more". And you are right of course. Now, 25 years after our beloved T3 Syncro was launched, you have the opportunity to design a 'new T3 Syncro's.

Alf,
Had I attended the event it would have been with mixed feelings given what I plainly stated and asked you about in my first post.

For all those here not up to speed on this topic, then simply read and digest "contest 2" concerning this significant and worriesome and premeditated planning associated with this 25 years young celebratory T3 event.
Goto: http://www.syncro25 years.eu/ En/index. htm This website has been up for some considerable time and the subject and promo thread for the event, even drawn to our attention on this forum a number of times prior by Mike Plompen, a leading light in this events organisation.

Had he and you had the time to discuss "contest 2" face to face, perhaps your reply to me could well have been very different.
Cheers.
Ken

Alf,
So having attended this momentous syncro event and bearing in mind the event organisers spirited pursuit of a design competition for a modern replacement VAG Syncro which, if it comes about will quickly kill off T3 ownership and service/parts support worldwide, might this celebratory event prove in time to in fact represent the turning point/deathknell of our much loved and unique syncro transporters?
Cheers.

Ken

Hi all
Well, we think we know something about syncros, let me tell you something we know very little and have seen nothing, I have just come back from mammut park, where there were about 500 syncros, all different, with there own little personnel touchs, they came from all corners of Europe, I spoke some time with Jean Louie Brion (busmans engine man) about TDI engines and gear box to suit,he uses a lot of Albins gears, I also spoke to Mike (the busman) very briefly, he was very busy with his cut down syncro doing tours. The offroad section was unbelievable, as you have already seen on u tube, there was cars going in all direction, and plenty of them.  My little memory stick in my head is over loaded.

I don't think you need worry. VW have spent (I guess ) heaps of Euro on their real 4X4 Amarok so I think the chances of making a new van like the T3 is absolutely zero.

If you want a new one then just get Peter Seikel to upgrade it to this http://www.vw-offroad-seikel.de/index.php?id=108&L=1
