FW: [Syncro_T3_Australia] Tyres

Peter,
Those 15x6" rims are pretty much perfect for 205 or 215 tyres. Above 215 though, things start getting very murky for stock syncros, so eliminate that consideration.

Cheers.
Ken

Ken. The mefro rims we have bought are 15x6. Is there a definitive syncro spec for that rim. One guy said to me that I should not go above 205 for those rims. Most are recommending Light Truck specs because of the weight. I reckon my camper weighs 2 tons when we go away camping!!!!

Cheers, Peter from Port
I agree Ken ,this is the best size for a syncro with standard engine & gearing. You will find most makes offer this size in an "LT" construction. The only decision you are left with is how aggressive a tyre do you want or need? Smaller tread blocks = much smoother quieter ride.Hope my two cents worth helps with your decision Francesca, cheers Eddie.

Thanks Ken and Eddie

Hello All,

Two more Tyres I came across sight unseen, on paper only.

PIRELLI Scorpion ATR LT215/75R15 106 705mmOD quoted price
$238 from Tyrepower

BRIDGESTONE DUELER LT215/75R15 100 712mmOD quoted
price $239 from Kmart

I have Cooper Tyre brochure which list the ATR 205/70R15 Murray Lee
mentioned but only as a Passenger T.
the LT version is 235/75R15 quoted price $270.

Size wise I will stick with LT215/75 that way I hope with a bit of
"Ken's rework" it fits underneath, where it belongs.

Cheers Theo
The Scorpions are nice road tyres. Once you're off pavement, they aren't aggressive enough IMHO.

Theo,
I reiterate, I can only confirm that the BFG tyre fits ... and tight at that. All other brand tyres in that size are an unknown for me by my method. Initial checks one should first do before buying a different brand tyre you want to fit under would be to first lay the tyre on a flat surface (even at the tyre dealers!) and then accurately measure (with tools/aids/squares/straight edge) the overall diameter, the overall carcass height off the flat surface as well as the measurement up the tread, from the floor to the very top leading edge of the tread. Then compare all those findings with BFG measurements I can provide.
If any of your measurements are larger, then as a rough rule of thumb, it won't fit under by my method. Meaning you'll have to buy the BFG instead or measure other brand tyres or else reconsider your spare wheel options.

The rewards are there for this project, but not a project for the faint hearted nor impatient. Rather, anyone who's inquisitive, hands-on and a good problem solver.

Cheers.
Ken
