The ECU controls everything and any sensor providing no information or corrupt information governs how the engine runs – or fails to start/run, as in my case. The T2 (temperature) sensor that lives in the thermostat housing is critical because the ECU sets the fuel ratio and spark advance according to that the T2 sensor tells it.
If the T2 sensor plays up, it will still run but very roughly. I changed my T2 sensor in the last year or so but it will still be checked. Hartmut is sending me a stack of known good components, including a T2 sensor.
By progressively swapping in known good parts, a diagnosis will probably be found fairly quickly. If not, there are still many components to checkout.
