Fwd: Rims to Australia: final order

Hi all,

Just to let you know, Syncro Services is in the process of getting a
new quote for the shipment, as the final number of rims on order is
less than originally thought (now 25 rather than 37).

Regards,

Francesca.

Hi Henning,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. l had to chase a couple of people.

Unfortunately, some people have changed their minds and have withdrawn
their orders. Two were in Western Australia, and the cost of 5000 km
of road freight across Australia (such is the size of our country) on
top of shipping made the rims too expensive for them. One other
withdrew for personal/financial reasons. Perhaps they also had too
long to think about it...

Below is the final order:

5 X sets of 15-inch rims (25 in total)
4 X fastener sets (one person already has a set)
1 set handbrake cable right/left

As we are now ordering a lesser amount = less weight, will the cost of
shipping be adjusted downwards? Will there also be a downward
adjustment in the German national taxes and BAF rates? The cost of
insurance should be less with the shipment being of lesser value as
well.

What I will need to ask of you is a new invoice, obviously. This time
could you please itemise separately exactly what is included under
'shipping to Australia'. The price you originally mentioned to me for
shipping was 400 euros + 85 euros insurance, but on the invoice it is
down as 550 euros. Could you explain the price variance there, thanks?
As I will be presenting to the group a price for the rims delivered to
Melbourne, I need to be able to give them a breakdown of costs and
divide the costs fairly.

Also, you mention that German national taxes and bunker fees on top of
shipping will have to be paid at our end, and you say that this should
be 35% of shipping costs. A friend of mine here (and a member of the
forum) who has extensive experience with import/export asked me to
query this amount as it seemed high to him. Could you please confirm
this, thanks.

One more request: could you please give me the contact details of your
Melbourne shipping agent. I would like to ask them to quote for
clearance and delivery. Also, please ensure that the goods are
consigned 'to order' and all documents sent to me personally. If they
are sent to your agent, I might be liable for an administration fee to
hand them over to an agent who may have given me a more competitive
quote.

Thanks for your assistance. I apologise if there is anything I've
misunderstood. I'm trying to ensure that I discharge my responsibility
to the group as cost-effectively as possible while lacking in
experience in these matters.

Thanks again for your great service on our behalf.

Regards,

Francesca.
Hi all,

Well, it seems the moment has finally arrived to pay the bill from
Syncro Services. They have worked hard and efficiently to secure a
good rate on the shipping, and have ticked all the necessary
administrative boxes. The quote on the shipping has been adjusted down
for the smaller size of the final order following the withdrawal of a
few people, and is very reasonable, incorporating German taxes and
insurance as well. Please note that there will be a further bill for
the charges associated with customs clearance, GST and transport to
Gary's warehouse once the shipment reaches Melbourne.

Before I bill you individually, and provide you with my bank account
details so that you can forward the money to me in advance of my
making a single PayPal payment to Syncro Services (don't worry, I
won't be absconding to South America), can anyone tell me what the
correct avenue for calculating the Euro–Aussie dollar exchange rate
is? Do we go with the Reserve Bank of Australia rate on the day of the
transaction? I've only done bank transfers for overseas payments
before where they calculate the exchange for you. Or does PayPal have
a facility for doing this? I haven't used PayPal for an international
order yet. You'll have to excuse my ignorance – no doubt there's a
simple answer out there that others more experienced in transnational
transactions can quickly impart.

Thanks,

Francesca.

Hi Francesca,

I got the address of the agent in Melbourne, maybe you can contact him
directly to ask for taxes and further costs as here nobody can give me
detailed informations unfortunately:

eMail: samanthad@agsworld.com

The BAF-rates (I still don´t know what it exactly is, Henning knows
it) are included in the rate already. Insurance for the rims as well.
The insurance fee remains the same and is also included in the total,
as there is a minimum fee that applies this case. But I think the
total rate is quite good. In the total freight rate of 400,00 € there
is also included the separate parcel I will send from here with the
bolts and the cables.

The shipping agent can send you the documents of shipping directly via
e-mail, so that you can do all the services on your own.

I hope, I was able to answer all your questions and maybe you can get
more detailed informations from the above mentioned contact regarding
the costs that applies in the harbour of melbourne.

Hi Francesca, I use

This gives a mid market rate though and the bank/paypal always give you something different usually in their favour but this is a good starting point i think.

Thanks again for organising, you've done a fantastic job.

Hi all,

Well, it seems the moment has finally arrived to pay the bill from
Syncro Services. They have worked hard and efficiently to secure a

I hope, I was able to answer all your questions and maybe you can get
more detailed informations from the above mentioned contact regarding
the costs that applies in the harbour of melbourne .

Hi Gary.

Tony told me he had a visit from you in the shop the other day.

You'd better save the congratulations for the final arrival at your
place, but it should all come together. I might have to leave the
group purchase of 15-inch off-road tyres to someone else... (just
joking). Roger has given me some sound advice; what a kind and helpful
fellow he is.

Thanks for that tip. I've used oanda.com for rule-of-thumb
conversions, but was not sure what these websites base their rates
upon. I suppose I could ask Syncro Services for a bill in Aussie
dollars, for that matter? That way they'd be happy with what they
receive (provided it seems accurate enough to me, obviously).

Cheers,

Francesca.

Hi Francesca, yes saw Tony the other day, i was in a bit of a daze and couldn't place him at first. He was filed under VW not bicycle in my head. I must pop back soon for a proper chat or maybe when we get that group off road trip happening soon.

My bus now has a dead battery so something else to tackle before the new VC, propshaft and whatever else it is going to throw my way before that.

Not sure what to suggest re the bill, i'm sure they would do whatever you liked to get the order over the line.

Cheers
Gary

Francesca,
Syncro-Services payments are usually best made and are the most convenient anyway through their PayPal facility.
Dina will forward you a total invoice in euro together with their email address registered with PayPal. You simply nominate the euro amount and that recipients email address when making the online payment transaction through your PayPal account and PayPal do the conversion automatically which is then debited in Oz $s to whatever account you have set up with PayPal.

Should there be any under or over payments to you from buyers in their initial payments, simply add/subtract these in conjunction with each individuals final payment for the remainder costs whenever it is required i.e., the local GST, customs, cartage etc. Charges. Add your usual 15% handling/admin charge of course. Too easy.
Cheers.
Ken

Hi Everard,

I'll get back to you when I've had a moment to recalculate the costs
(I have a sick child at present).

As I advised the group previously, I can only give a ballpark figure
(say to within 10-20% of the final costs), because although we can say
exactly what the price of the rims is on arrival in the Port of
Melbourne, at this stage we can't say exactly what it will cost to
clear them through customs. The estimate I gave earlier of $125 per
rim inclusive of all costs will change slightly because the number of
rims on order (and number of orderers) has changed. The fastener sets
are $70 ex Syncro Services, incidentally. Tomorrow I hope to contact
the shipping agent in Tullamarine to sound them out about the local
costs involved, and I may shop around for a competitive quote.

I think it would be possible to include you at this late stage, but we
will have to draw a line in the sand once the payment to Syncro
Services goes through. I am trying to arrange payment as soon as
possible. The process is already becoming a bit drawn out from my
point of view (and possibly from others too!). So, perhaps just
consider whether you are seriously interested or not on the basis of
what I've told you and let me know either way, if that makes sense
(please excuse my sleep-deprived brain).

Regards,

Francesca.

Francesca,

My recollection of Paypal is you pay in the currency of the bill you are paying. Paypal does the conversion to Australian dollars and charges you at their conversion rate.

AGS Worldtransport l/p
36-38 Trade Park Drive
Tullaramine VIC 3043
Tel: 613 8554 7500
eMail: samanthad@agsworld.com

Alles Gute! / All the best!

Tom,

I have had the experience of being charged at exchange rates that were six months behind the current rates!!  You have to be very careful that you are being charged the current rates.

Francesca,

My recollection of Paypal is you pay in the currency of the bill you are paying. Paypal does the conversion to Australian dollars and charges you at their conversion rate.

Regards,

Francesca.

Francesca,
I agree with Ken's helpful post, and please keep in mind "The prices
are valid until 25.Oct." which is next Monday.
Charge us enough to cover your payment, 0.66 should do it? We got 8
weeks to sort it out.
I think we all owe you a Lunch/Dinner for all your hard work.
Cheers
Theo
