Gear oil GL-4 / GL-5

Les,

What do you think - add Michael Newton Automotive to our Workshop data base?

Considering Peter's comments.

Here it is Theo.

Michael Newton Automotive
Motor Engineers Repairers
1/ 13 Aspinall Pl,
Mulgrave NSW 2756
Phone (02) 4577 9166

Just remember, he is first and foremost a Porsche Cup specialist
and his racing clients come first.
I only take the Bergmeister to him,
because he did the engine / transmission installation for me.

He does not work on the Syncro,
although Mark Hammond, when he was still in business,
sent my Syncro Transmission to him twice.

Peter

Peter,Michael,

Thank you for information sent - interesting stuff.

With my gearbox rebuild, I also use Red Line Lightweight Shockproof gear oil. Chosen by the mechanic, and yes

it is rather thick/heavy but no sulphur smell.

By the way Peter could you tell us Michael Newton business address for our Australia wide T3 Workshop data base.

Thanks

Theo

Theo,

Yes.  My opinion is that it is still useful information.

Hi folks,
My two bobs worth,
When Ron Schmidt from Racetrans rebuilt my trans & front diff he specified Castrol Syntrax for both. I quizzed him about this and he was adamant. If it's good enough for him building for offroad racers... it's good enough for me. Syntrax covers both GL4 & GL5.

Bruce.

Hi All,

I will be putting Swepco 201 (non-synthetic) into my reco transmission after reading some of the US forums. Prior to reading I would have gone with the redline - which apparently is still very good (though they may have had minor drop in quality in recent years).

Les,

I was going to add the details to the Workshop Data Base.

I looked in  "Edit tables" and the message came up "YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO EDIT TABLES.

PLEASE CONTACT THE MODERATOR OF THIS GROUP".

Can you help?

Theo,

This is yet another function that has been changed in the “new, improved” website, which they changed for the sake of change, not for the sake of improved functionality!!

I will get into it and change it – and that’s assuming that it is something that I can still change!

Hi Bruce,
Yeah Rudi also put in Castrol Syntrax in both my trans and front diff.

If ever there were two gentlemen who, amongst other trans issues, would also know one way or t'other what fluids these days do or don't damage trans synchros, it would have to be Ron and Rudi.

With one reservation speaking to Rudi since, he was in the middle of researching whether there was a preferred alternate fluid to suit predominantly hotter climates ie., the upper half of Australia. He felt that as I was mostly travelling in the bottom half, then not a problem with Castrol Syntrax. I still am unaware of his findings, if any.

Cheers.
Ken

Peter,

Since Yahoo threw out the original group format, very little makes sense any longer!!!!

When you say ‘this address’, do you mean the group website address?   Is it your email server that is declaring the group address to be ‘suspected spam’?

Something is lopsided since this email from you got through.

Les,
My send server is Telstra, which is different to my receive server.
This is the first time I have ever had a rejection of this type.
You are right, the E-mail you responded to was sent to the same address.

I was responding to Theo's E-mail re Classic VW with the following:

Theo,

Unless it's policy has changed, I bought parts from VW Classic in 2010.

My last contact was with Andreas Meyer in 2010, and he was was really helpful in supplying me with a Viscous Coupling.

Peter,

I was going to order a relay which was on the shelf, only to find out - our flag wasn't flying for countries they

deliver to - European countries only.
