Thanks Ken.

I might pop down tomorrow to get some petrol the servo @ Erina and some top up oil from Repco in Erina.

Just had the new stainless steel coolant pipes and a brand new Just Kampers radiator installed. Still trying to bleed all the air out of the system.

I have the perfect driveway for this (nice and steep).

Cheers,

Skot

Phil,

The coolant pipes fit like a glove. They look great and are really well made.

The new radiator was definitely necessary with clear evidence of a leak front one side of the radiator.

The old plastic pipes are very fragile.

Does anyone want the old ones?

My mechanic probably hasn't thrown them out just yet. Although I did tell him I didnt want them.

Skot

Scott,
I reckon too steep a slope makes filling and bleeding much harder to do. In fact I'm more now the school of thought to just leave it level or else just a bit of a slope. Remember the bleeder is higher than the expansion bottle anyway. I find after a fill, when you're going somewhere, just stop a couple of times after the thermostat has opened and ease the bleeder to check for air release with the motor revving around 2k. You should be fine after a couple of checks, top up the expansion bottle if needed. Once I thought this procedure was rocket science, now it doesn't phase me so much.

Ken,

My scooby lump is slightly different to your VW lump and the way it is set up we bleed it at both ends. Firstly with the bleeder valve at the radiator, then with the expansion tank at the engine. Basically, it was bled and refilled at Tony's, then I drove home, let it cool for an hour and took the expansion tank cap off for a while to let any air out then refilled with distilled water.

Probably need to do this a few times to get all the air out but at least I didn't waste lots of coolant by doing the coolant hoses then separately doing the radiator.

Expensive stuff that coolant.

Might use red cordial instead next time.

Looks the same.

Cheers,

Skot

here are my two simple tricks..
one.............. not my idea, but clever I thought,
is with engine filled with coolant as much as you can get in in the first 5 minutes of running..
and t-stat is open ..
drive around with the bleed valve on the radiator cracked open just a little bit, ..
so air/coolant spews out  there ...
after 10 minutes of that, close the valve.

What I also do a lot ...
which I find works quite well..
is every warm-up cool down cycle ..................top up the pressure bottle.
Do that about 6 times over a day or two ..
it's plenty full of coolant and no air to speak off.

Scott,
I reckon too steep a slope makes filling and bleeding much harder to do.

Cheers,

Skot

Hi All.

Just to warn everyone those bloody scammers are out there and very
successful at getting around the useless security that my bank provided.
Even though it made my credit card account go into very negative figures
the bastards managed to scam $2700.00 from my account.

The vendor does not exist either and neither of these factors seemed to
make any difference. They did apparently try to take another $2000.00
which bounced due to a lack of funds in the account. Hence it may have
been near $5K rather than $3K I am out of pocket.

The bank tells me I "should" get the money back but it may take up to 3
months (90 days) to do so.

Hence, be wary of where you use your credit card. In this case it wasn't
mine but my wife's card that is linked to mine that was the culprit -
she maintains she knows nothing about it.

Could be anywhere that has the skimmer readers ready to eat your details
and unused credit.

Cheers,

Skot
The buggers got a friend of mine. He bought a $20 teddy online and lost $2500. He got his money back, it did take months however. Scott its times like these you need to look in the driveway and feel the warm glow of having the best syncro camper in the country. Best of luck. Greg E

Hi Scott,
Sorry to hear that. That must have been an awful shock. It's happening

a globalised world. I sincerely hope you get the money back without
too much hassle.

Hi Skot - what a bugger for this to happen...

Some individuals maintain an 'Internet' use credit card that maintains a low limit (eg, $500 or maybe $1000), or even a 'debit Visa card' that requires funds in a bank account, as opposed to credit, that effectively limits the maximum amount of fraud that could be committed, if the card limits are honoured by the clearing agency. Note, there are increasing 'micro transactions' that do not require an authentication against the issuer, rather are blanket approved if certain conditions are met (eg, low spend, card present transaction).

Using the low limit card, the card is then settled regularly from a normal bank account just before you need some capacity back on the card. A bit of a hassle, but can work.

Hope Christmas not too messed up and be vigilant chasing the issuer!

Regards
Mark.

Thanks for your comments.

I plan to harass the living hell out of my Bank.

I have already made an official complaint and I have a few more in store for them over this week.

How hard can an investigation be. I searched the internet thoroughly including yellow pages and white pages to find the company that is supposed to be in Crows Nest  (I assume Sydney) does not exist.

Plus the fact that it happened on a late Friday arvo and it significantly overdrew my credit allowance should have stopped it there and then. This happened about 2 weeks ago now and still no sign of any money being returned.

Maybe the ombudsman could help?

I would change banks as well but I fear that would slow the process of me getting my money back and I fear all other banks would be just as useless.

Anyway that is my rant for the day.

Time for a nap.

Cheers,

Skot

Hi Scott,
Sorry to hear that. That must have been an awful shock. It's happening
all too often, that kind of thing. The price we pay for convenience in
a globalised world. I sincerely hope you get the money back without
too much hassle.
Francesca.

Good idea.

That's why debit cards are useless. They still take money that isn't there.

It doesn't cost anything to try.
I know this is off topic but for peoples interest, my wife purchased $8k worth of air travel tickets (online) 2 weeks ago. Two days later we noticed $1600 of online purchase neither of us had made, and another $400 two days later. We notified the bank after the first purchase, and rang them back after the second purchase requesting that they cancel my wife's card. We posted a dispute form on that Saturday and last Thursday (5 days later) I received a phone call to say that they were reimbursing the fraudulent expenditure and the over limit charges we had incurred as a result.

Very happy!

Andy.
Gee that was quick Andy.

You're obviously not with ANZ.

I have been told I can wait up to 3 months for mine to come back.

Not happy Jan!!!

Joanne's only took a couple of weeks to be reimbursed.

Are the police involved?
