These kits seem to work great. I have one installed an no leaking ever since (3 or more years of serviceso far).
The opponents say the stainles steel lines are the only real fix and have a long argumnet a to why the gowesty kit cannot work.
However, I have not heard a single report of someone with leaky pipes that uses the gowesty kit. and $50 is a lot cheaper than the $300 or so for the stainless, not even thinking about shipping to australia.
Only other option I know of is to just run marine exhaust hose the entire length. Works too.

BTW I have a couple decouplers sitting here ready to ship. Anyone need one right now?

Hi Florian

Re decouplers I am interested in fitting one to our otherwise unmolested T3. A couple on novice questions exist.

Who are they manufactured by?

What is their price?

Do they carry any warranty?

Do they come with fitting instructions?

How are they actuated?

Any thing else I need to know about their instillation/use?

Thanks

Florian,
Thanks for the input, as with Phill, a good idea to keep this GoWesty kit in the cupboard for the inevitable "rainy" day, who knows when this kit may go NLA.

Replacement coolant pipes has been the topic of discussion here in the recent past, still with no clear outcome. You've confirmed what I had previously heard on the US syncro forum about a marine hose solution.

Just wondering then for us Oz syncro owners, can you or someone identify the definitive type/size/model of marine hose and hose end clamping solution that is already known by the US syncro community and if so, provide these details and website links about them to this Oz forum please. Then perhaps we can identify the local agent/supplier of the same or similar products here in Oz. Thanks a lot.
Cheers
Ken

Col,

Several members have fitted decouplers from Florian and they appear to be satisfactory.  Florian can fill in more detail.

They are vacuum actuated and use the same actuator as is used for the diff locks.  If you have a diff lock already fitted, the decoupler actuator plumbs into the same system.  If you don’t, you have to install the vacuum reservoir and manifold tapping.  The control is added to the same sub-panel used for the diff lock.  (The control “switches” are actually vacuum valves.)

Col. I successfully fitted one recently as an amateur with help from Hart so if you need a “heads up” on the process more than happy to have a chat.

regarding the marine hose, personally I still believe the gowesty kit is the best solution - it simply works, is cheap, and easy to install.
people here buy the marine hardwall hose type whatever is on sale. the typical selection is this, but its expensive:

http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=19371&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&storeId=11151&storeNum=10111&subdeptNum=10640&classNum=10641

there are sellers on us ebay for around $5/ft ($15/meter)

basically marine water / exhaust hose with wire reinforcement works. I use the thread type hoseclamps, two side by side. The wire in the hose makes them hard to compress. Also note that the exterior diameter of these hoses may be bigger than your existing tube, which would result in you having to potentially enlarge some of the areas it needs to get routed through. I have used this hose only for the engine area in my subaru conversion. Its nearly too stiff for short runs, I have one spot where I cannot fit a huge clamp on it so I sometimes have a minimal drip there. But at that spot the hose is low and exposed, and this hose is so tough that I am sure it does not get ripped while offroading. I rather have a drip than a weak hose in an exposed location.

Florian,
Thanks for the input, as with Phill, a good idea to keep this GoWesty kit in the cupboard for the inevitable "rainy" day, who knows when this kit may go NLA.

Cheers
Ken
