Sounds like a wonderful trip Peter, plenty of nice country side to see down there.

Have a great time!

Richard

Welcome to Victoria. Hope you can include the Otway Fly treetops walk, Teddy's Lookout (see photo) at Lorne plus some of their walks and depending how long you stay the Pier to Pub swim. Stop at the Eastern start of the Great Ocean Rd (Timber Archway over it) and read how the Great Ocean Rd was largely dug with picks and shovels by unemployed returned WW1 servicemen. Bell's Beach has a nice ring to it too.
Cheers

Thanks for the tips.

However I have a small problem. I appear to have a leak from a pushrod tube seal. Lots of oil coming out under the motor. Losing about a litre of oil in 300km. So need to get it replaced. I'm in Melbourne now. Altona.

Looking for thoughts on repair place to fix it or supply parts.

All advise welcome

Cheers

Hey Peter, the repairer I used in the past is Volksrepair in Airport West. If you need parts I have two used but good expandable push rod tubes sitting in my garage doing nothing. They would save you the need to remove cylinder head. Eddie.
Hi Eddie,

Thanks for the quick  and helpful response. Where are you? I would like to call by a get one if I could. Cheers

Peter I'm working in Coburg tomorrow. I'll bring them with me, so give us a call in the morning & will give you an address. Phone 0413585530.
Excellent I'll give you a bell in the morning. Thank you.

Hi Peter,
Sorry to hear your news. Would endorse what Eddie suggests on Volksrepair -I used to get my Syncro serviced there . Their phone number is 9330 3455 11 Earl St Airport West.
Alternatively didn't someone recently flag a do it yourself workshop in Williamstown (next suburb to Altona) with a helpful proprietor.

Hi, Youdoitauto is a great DIY workshop with tools and hoists etc and very well priced, but of course you have to do the work yourself.
Cheers

By the way Peter,
We live on the GOR in Anglesea and the place we rent has a huge garden and space to camp in the trees, plus is 2 mins walk from the beach. If you want to come by/talk vans/camp or any or none of the above, do get in touch... you will be very welcome. The house is 200m from where you will be driving and I also have some great 'secret' camp spots between here and Warrnambool where you don't get moved on and the views are stunning.
Kindest regards
Nick 0408898414 and we are at 21 Eighth Ave, Anglesea.

Hi all,

Well I had planned to call you in and see Nick at Anglesea but coming into Lorne mid morning my alternator light came on so I mange to coast to the car park on the beach opposite the pub (where I am now). But it was not the belt it was the water pump (see photos).  The pulley/impeller shaft broke! Fortunately I always carry a water pump as a spare so 4 hours later it is on and appears to be okay.

However the dislodge pulley and or belt also knocked of the distributor cap and the clips that holds it down went missing and the rotor tip got mangled. So I bent the rotor back into shape cable-tied the cap back on turned the key and all seems good.

Hot day in the sun but success so far. Let's see if I can make it to Melbourne tonight.

Peter

Hoping to make it back to the Gold Coast and install a Bostig kit with a 2lt ford zetec motor to avoid this sort of drama most times we go away.

Nice work Peter.

I wonder what would have caused that shaft to snap?

Fatigue?

Never seen that happen before.

Great you are back on the road.

Well done Peter on replacing the water pump on the go. And great foresight to carry one as a spare. I replaced one in workshop conditions a few years ago so great work by you. Have never heard of that shaft snapping before. And also clever that you got back on the road with that damage to the dizzy. Good luck with the rest of your trip.
