Group Support

Not strictly syncro related but just how great the group is.

My daughter has always wanted a VW Beetle but I have talked her out of it. About a year ago she decided she wanted a camper. So we started looking. She checked out a few around the Brisbane area, then Phill Lander pointed one out in Gosford at Camper Craft. A 1991 2WD with a Camperize roof, bed seat and home built cupboards. Skot willingly went and had a look at it for me. Said he would buy it if he was looking for one. I negotiated a price and organised a flight to Sydney. Phill and Joanne looked after me, then Phill drove me up to Gosford in his DoKa on Tuesday. I was just going to catch the train but Phill insisted on driving me. We checked it over and some time late I was driving away in it.

We headed to Kombi Rescue where the German travellers, Hannes and Jürgen had just fired up the diesel in there Syncro DoKa Camper after all their troubles. I bought the TDI engine (for a spare) off them. It had been wrongly supplied to them and the bloke wouldn't take it back. Loaded it in the back of the camper and headed to Brisbane. Camped the night at a road-side stop.

Had morning tea with Hart in Port on the way through. Very pleasant indeed. Continued to Brisbane and only had two minor issues. One appeared to be "Vanagon Syndrome". Daughter was very happy with her purchase. Of course we have the interstate change of rego issue to deal with yet.

Yesterday she went to VW Action Day and was chuffed to find a note on her windscreen asking if she wanted to sell. Her 3 and a half year old son was most upset with that - "it's MY campervan"

So thanks to Skot, Phill, Hart and of course to Les for maintaining this wonderful group......

Bruce CQ

You are most welcome Bruce.

I think everyone on this group would be glad to help out anyone else should the need arise.

I do think you bought a very nice camper.

Attached is a few photos for those that can see them.

Cheers,

Skot

Mark Kofahl had a similar experience when his son Max was a similar age.  Max took possession of the Syncro key ring and made it clear to Mark and Deb that he regarded the Syncro as his.   Must be a VW thing!

That looks like a really nice late model 5speed bus. Well done Bruce, I am sure your lassie will be very happy with it. Especially having good old dad to fix it up. If you don't mind me saying, loose those non genuine h/t leads, they are probably the cause of your running problem. Greg E

It was supposed to have been serviced by a local central coast VW "expert". Obviously not a very good one with those leads and the Ryco oil filter.

Other than that the car is very nice.

Hi Bruce,
Its great to hear stories about how people buy and inherit these great machines. What did you do or are doing about the Vanagon Syndrome? I have a 1990 WBX that has it. It is only an issue on long hauls, mainly highway driving for a few hours and then slowly shuts down. A new AFM or VW harness seem expensive when this is only a rare issue. When affected I disconnect/ reconnect the battery and this seems to refresh the computer and off I go again.
Congratulations on the new purchase
Dave

Dave,
There is no need to disconnect the battery to refresh the computer. The computer is only connected through the ignition switch. Just turn the ignition off.

Vanagon syndrome is fixed by a modification to the wiring harness.

VW 025 906 302 just plugs in.

No worries Ken.

I missed your email - I just switched off my computer before you emailed you were coming so I didn't get a chance to warn the Boss.

Anyway - she was happy with the $50 (probably spent it already) and the book goes to a good home.

I was gone by 5:00am so you had no chance of getting me but Mel like to sleep in - as you may have guessed.

Cheers,

Skot

No worries Ken.

I missed your email - I just switched off my computer before you emailed you were coming so I didn't get a chance to warn the Boss.

Anyway - she was happy with the $50 (probably spent it already) and the book goes to a good home.

I was gone by 5:00am so you had no chance of getting me but Mel like to sleep in - as you may have guessed.

Cheers,

Skot

Hi all,

I know lots have this on disk now but if anyone wants a hard copy I have
come into a second copy.

This retails new from Just Kampers for $187.80 including GST.

http://www.justkampersaustralia.com/shop/robert-bentley-official-service-manual-for-vw-t25-june-1979-to-november-1990-j11239.html

I will let it go for $50.00.

Its still in very good condition.

I am in Terrigal NSW and if interested give me a call on 0418 680 189.

Cheers,

Scott
