My daughter has always wanted a VW Beetle but I have talked her out of it. About a year ago she decided she wanted a camper. So we started looking. She checked out a few around the Brisbane area, then Phill Lander pointed one out in Gosford at Camper Craft. A 1991 2WD with a Camperize roof, bed seat and home built cupboards. Skot willingly went and had a look at it for me. Said he would buy it if he was looking for one. I negotiated a price and organised a flight to Sydney. Phill and Joanne looked after me, then Phill drove me up to Gosford in his DoKa on Tuesday. I was just going to catch the train but Phill insisted on driving me. We checked it over and some time late I was driving away in it.
We headed to Kombi Rescue where the German travellers, Hannes and Jürgen had just fired up the diesel in there Syncro DoKa Camper after all their troubles. I bought the TDI engine (for a spare) off them. It had been wrongly supplied to them and the bloke wouldn't take it back. Loaded it in the back of the camper and headed to Brisbane. Camped the night at a road-side stop.
Had morning tea with Hart in Port on the way through. Very pleasant indeed. Continued to Brisbane and only had two minor issues. One appeared to be "Vanagon Syndrome". Daughter was very happy with her purchase. Of course we have the interstate change of rego issue to deal with yet.
Yesterday she went to VW Action Day and was chuffed to find a note on her windscreen asking if she wanted to sell. Her 3 and a half year old son was most upset with that - "it's MY campervan"
So thanks to Skot, Phill, Hart and of course to Les for maintaining this wonderful group......
