Head Gasket Fail

Hi guys. Well I was having issues with overheating warning while not overheating and now I’ve found the issue. There is coolant in the oil so I’m guessing a head gasket. I’m not a mechanic so will need to find one in the Perth area to rebuild my 2100cc water boxer. Any suggestions? I’m not really interested in the sub swap scenario so a good rebuilder would be my preferred choice. I was looking to get a Go West 2450cc but with our dollar and the shipping plus core charges it’s just way to expensive.

Thats a big shame Harold.

These old engines are now very susceptible to this issue.

A mate found that when he had oil his coolant, it was caused by a busted head stud. Either way you need to remove the heads but a busted head stud is very hard to remove and can require a replacement case.

Hopefully not in your case.

Certainly not good! I went through that with mine, ended up doing the work myself last year.
Not sure who could do the work in Perth, but there would some good VW places you could call on.
Maybe ask on Kombi club where people go for service.

When my 300k motor was opened last year the head gasket was hanging by a thread. I went with the GoWesty heads, water pump etc and paid GST… shipping etc. Another order under $1000 had no GST or customs fees. Pipes etc I found at Just Kampers.

Labour was $6,500. I cleaned up and painted all the bits and pieces myself.

Thanks for the reply boys. There’s a shop in Fremantle who say they do the rebuilds. I’d still kinda like the Go Westy engine complete. But I’m still considering the options. If I was more mechanically inclined I’d have a crack at it myself but I’m not.
