Head Required

Hi All

After giving up on rebuilding my engine last year due to not being able to get all the snapped/corroded head studs out I am back on a mission after finding this how to youtube:

VANAGON broken stud . Como sacar birlo de motor 1.9 o 2.1 vanagon

My cam was n't in the greatest condition, I have heard they can get reground with slightly better torque, does anyone have any leads for me to find a suitable grinder.

Also I sent my heads off to be reco'd and one was cracked beyond repair, does anyone have a decent head they don't mind parting with? Preferably and AMC head. Doesn't matter if it needs a reco, as I will probably do it anyway.

Finally I have some good quality corrosion free head studs to put in but am a few short.

Does anyone have any good head studs to spare? The new ones are $700plus and I can't justify it.

I wouldn't mind forking out cash on stainless steal head studs but i can't find any. Leads anyone?

Any other WBX engine rebuild tips would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Paul

Paul,

Which side head do you need as they are different.

Cheers,

Scott

Hi Scott
I will call the guys at the head shop and find out.
I had a good look at the heads to try work out if they were the same but couldn't tell, how do they differ?
Cheers
Paul
Paul,

One on the LHS has the thermostat attached to it and the oil cooler to the front - the other one doesnt.

Cheers,

Skot

Pretty sure that they're both the same Scott. Even when you order new there isn't a left or right option. Eddie.
Heads are same, same. There is a water hose union that goes where the thermostat is mounted when fitted on the right side. Gregor

There was a place in Melbourne that achieved a clean removal of broken studs by using spark erosion.  I don’t know who it was but it’s a good bet that Volks Home in Thomastown or Volksplace in Greensborough would know.
