Heat/Vent Fan Motor

My heat / vent fan motor has a noisy bearing and I set out to lubricate it in situ.  Many years ago, I found this helpful description of how to do it:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=386923

I pulled everything off the front and drilled a hole as described – no fan motor in sight!!

The probable reason is that there is a difference between LH drive and RH drive vehicles.  ETKA does not show different assemblies, nor does Bentleys, so I am at a bit of a loss.  Removing the dash and digging into the entire heater is something that I wish to avoid!

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks

Les

Hi Les,

Can't help on this one, but I got some parts off this guy recently.

VW T3 TRANSPORTER RIGHT HAND FRONT DOOR | Other Automotive | Gumtree Australia Manly Area - North Curl Curl | 1074048609

He's wrecking a few T3's, he might have one apart and could help with pictures or details. I don't know him, so you'd just be trying your luck.

Also Alec in Toowoomba usually has a few T3's in pieces, so might be able to help.

Richard

Les I don't think there is any short cut for this that is worth exploring. The dash needs to come out. You can often pull apart the fan motor and lube the bushes and they work fine. Capping off the inlet side bush so that all the grit doesn't get stuck in there is a good idea.

Greg,

That is by far the preferable fix but it is snowing here and being able to demist the screen would be very handy!  Removal of motor/fan can come later.

Peter,

There are a number of devices like this available and they strike me as one of the most useful things ever invented.  At the top end of the range, there are several that plug into a laptop and shows everything full-screen and in extremely high definition.  These are self-illuminating, of course, and were quite expensive in the recent past.  This one is astonishingly cheap and the price must be the result of the economies of large scale production.  According to the information supplied, luminescence is adjustable.  I think that I will give it a try.  (Sadly, the nurse does not appear to be listed as part of the standard kit!)

Thanks

Les
