Out of all of the cars that I have owned. only 4 have had power steering. The only car that bothered me was an HT V8 wagon with manual steering and drum brakes. Now that was heavy on the steering and brakes!
Power steering is for wimps!

Often a new cable set was recommended. I bought a suitable set from http://www.kupplung.de/Elektrosaetze.html, but there may also be other sources out there.

As for best ways to import, I would have to do my homework first. Please let me know when you definitely think you are going to go down this route and I will happily try to be of help then as regards export to Australia. For customs/tax etc., please check with your local authorities.
