High Beam Dash Warning Light

Hi Guys.

Sorry for no post of late. The continuing drama/saga of my ebay purchased Syncro continues. I've been held up on getting the final RWC for over three weeks now due to being unable to obtain the correct bulb for the high beam warning light in the dash. This is a tiny clear globe . My mechanic is forever waiting (and cursing VW) for his VW supplier to find one. Can any member out there throw some light (pun intended) on getting my hands on one quickly so I can get to drive this van 3 months after purchasing it. Regards Michael

Michael,

I haven’t actually seen this globe but Jaycar keeps a truly amazing range of stock that includes seemingly unlikely items.  A search of their on-line catalogue might be a help.

Les,

I can take a pic for you tomorrow. It is held in a plastic holder. Can removed from the holder but sold with it. Looks like a small Christmas tree light bulb.

They are readily available here in the US but shipping will take a
week or more.

you can also try middy's electrical, they've found me some weird bulb matches in the past. Either that or someone breaking a T3 or even a polo/older veedub that uses the same little lights.

If the only hang up, for legal reasons is not having a high beam indicator light ..

how about just rig some small LED or whatever on the front of the insturment cluster ( I like to use that switch blank plastic piece for things like this ) ......then label it 'High Beams' ...

the rules don't say it has to be 'The Factory'  indicator light do they ?
- just that you have one that works.

or get some other tiny light bulb and rig inside the instrument cluster , but I like the external warning light idea ...
easier to do.
and when you eventually get around to the right part ..then you can put it in someday.
meanwhile you can be Syncro-ing !

Thanks to everyone for the info. Went back today to garage to get this stupidity sorted  and lo and behold it had just arrived. 4 weeks and 1 day to be exact. Hopefully get the beast on the road this weekend although I think there are still issues with overheating and  cooling, By the way Scott here in Victoria, hanging an external light to indicate high beam will not get the vehicle passed for RWC especially when the only mechanic in town is the one who found the fault for the RWC. Once again, thanks everyone.
ps. it's smaller by half again than el cheapo Xmas tree lights.

Regards

Michael

Hj Michael

If you could give me your address I will put one in the mail  . By the way , it took our  local VAG agent 5 days  to get 6 for me. They were $ 6  each.   Hartis

Hallelujah. What a painfully frustrating experience (one has to have high frustration tolerance with Syncros sometimes). If you can get the beast fully driveable, we'd be happy to see you at the meet on 18 April, and you can give us the full post-mortem.
