Greg,
I use a pair of multi-grips. Whilst the spring clips are convenient, they are not easy to manipulate. In places of restricted access, they can be a right bugger and it is worth considering replacing them with worm drive hose clips.
There are two types of worm drive hose clips. The cheap variety has a worm screw cage that it simply folded in on the underside and this can open up under load. The better variety has the cage folded under but also locked together. These will never open up in service. They are more expensive but much safer.

hose clamp tool
Hello, does anyone know where you can purchase the tool/pliers for removing the
spring loaded hose clamps? Every where I have asked around here give me a blank
look and tell me they have never seen one. Greg

I just bought one at repco or an automotive tool supplier. Just look in the Yellow Pages.
Thanks Ken, that’s very useful and I will have a look the next time that I go to the local Repco.

Greg,
Maybe ask Repco or Bursons.
An example of it: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=spring+clamp+tool&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=7586600535877758642&sa=X&ei=RHWwTtWiLYyQiQerp93vAg&ved=0CBoQ8wIwAA
