As it's been a topic of conversation previously, I just wanted to share that my ex-telstra syncro with the aftermarket Prestige aircon now has icy cold air. No need for re-fitting to r134a. You can buy large bottles of HyChill through Bursons, or if you happen to be near Penrith NSW I know a guy who can do regas and also change receiver dryer / tx valve / whatever is needed at very reasonable prices.
I haven't been following closely but I hope everyone enjoys their tanks and ladders once they make it to your doorstep.

Good to read from you. Remember when meeting at the river talking Syncros in an icy night...
You saved my life , I had forgotten all bedding and the air mattress lasted 4 hrs before being flat....thanks again for the sleeping bag...
You mentioned Hy Chill from Bursons, good choice, last time when I mentioned it about 2 years ago, I copped it. Hydro carbons too dangerous and other b..it..s like that. People sometimes forget that they are sitting on 70 ltrs of Hydro carbons if they manage to get the tank really full...
Another common gas replacement is of course LPG , also widely used as cheap and effective gas replacement when the real stuff is not available. Of course it should be replaced as soon as practicable for licence infringements and so on.
Sam, I would really like to catch up at some stage somewhere at a bonfire under the stars. Life is too short it sometimes sucks...hope that you and your family are well..

What a good idea Hart. A camping expedition in our vehicles. How about a Blue mountains Syncro road trip? I have never explored the area properly. Anyone willing to suggest a route.
Takers?
Jon.
P.S. Can't be in the next few months as no.2 son/daughter very imminent.

Yes I remember that night Hart :) And the lovely breakfast you made for me in Port one trip. I've been meaning to invite myself over on subsequent trips up and down the highway but it hasn't worked out. I still need to get you those documentaries I promised. Would love to catch up - I might have a chance coming soon on the way to and from Byron.
On the HyChill, not saying that I have done thorough research, but from what I have read online I'm happy to have it in my van. My understanding is the compressor doesn't have to work as hard on the HyChill compared to the other gases. And it's plenty cold aircon in my van now even on a warm day. Lovely to drive with the windows closed and not covered in sweat!
We did it in the opposite direction years ago on a Tag-Along Tour when they were run by Chris Mullet, the motoring journalist.
The roads back then were easy, though Chis did give us one challenging descent which could have been driven around.
How many days is it planned to take ?
Will there be time to explore Jenolan, Yerranderie and Wombeyan ?
If the chosen date is going to be too cold, at our age, we'd prefer to stay at home in front of the log fire.

Haha. Happy to co-ordinate. Perhaps Phill should be tour leader though given he seems to know the area? You can't beat some local knowledge.
What is the latest date before winter? :) I'll bring an extra sleeping bag for you Hart and some wooly gloves.
Jon.

I will come as well, hope this works out... Might be a good opportunity to put faces to names.
We have camped at Wollondilly River Station a couple of times and it is still all dirt from there to about 15k from the Hume. A stunning drive and a nice campsite run by a slightly eccentric chap. I remember having frost on the tent in September.
Speaking of which, with regards to the concerns about the cold weather, looking at the averages for Katoomba (granted 1000m+) it does seem to get chilly quite early. See below chart:

Nothing a good campfire can't sort out!
Realistically only end of April or May will work for me as we have to settle in with the new impending arrival and have overseas visitors in March. I'll probably squeeze 2 or 3 nights away in but no longer. I can always leave earlier if others have more time. Thoughts?
In terms of getting a date sorted, I have created a spreadsheet. Anyone can add their name and suitable dates. Alternatively email me suitable dates and I can collate. My dates are in there already.
You northerners need to toughen up, that's not cold. greg
