Immobilizer/Alarm on a Syncro

Hello All.
I wonder what people's opinions are regarding having an immobilizer unit installed on a Syncro Van.  While protected in the city, especially when on-street-parking and on travels, do you think most buyers/owners would avoid these due to possibly being stranded if there was an electronic malfunction while out of cities, or are new professionally fitted Australian Standard systems like Cobra reliable ?
Thanks.
Cheers,  Jim Roger.

I suggest you fit a kill switch to the main battery wire running from your start battery just under the drivers seat,
My switch is located close to the lower drivers safety belt anchor point.Easy to reach and you can remove the red plastic key and take it with you.
No electronics and cheap to buy and fit.
Also means no battery draining shorts whilst switched off.
Good safety feature in accidents as power can be quickly terminated. That's why rally cars must have two of them, one inside and one outside of the car
Jaycar have them.

Cheers Graham

Jim,

I had an alarm and immobiliser on my syncro but the alarm kept going off for no reason so I took it out and upgraded the immobiliser.

From my experience no body pays any attention to alarms anyway - people will just tell you to shut up!

Immobilisers are the best protection in my opinion - mine is linked to the central locking.

Cheers,

Skot

These do work well enough to have saved a Subaru I had.  Someone got inside and broke the key-starter barrel and steering column but could not start it as I had one of these in the engine bay, which they obviously found, as the bonnet was unlatched. Sadly they/someone later used a key/tool of their own and went joy riding and caused damage. Certainly works against the average drunk/lazy/macho individual/s walking/driving by.

Cheers,  Jim.

Jim,

I had an alarm.. I went through quite a large puddle one day and it set the alarm off..

Took it to a auto elec who promptly stated that he had removed more car alarms than fitted.. Ripped it out..no problems..

Go a kill switch..

Thanks Hamish

Glad you have such confidence in human nature.  To tell you the truth, I am more sceptical.  I have known of various campers both low-end and high-end that have disappeared from where they were safely left. If someone really wants it they will get it. I know they can't be stopped, only slowed down and deterred.  Saving the dollars is a good idea, but I really wouldn't like to spend the $ because of someone's joyriding.  As I said, human nature.  I like your attitude tho'.  It would be good to be as relaxed as that.

Cheers,  Jim

What brand did you use?  Is it a 1, 2 or 3 point immobilizer?

I'm not looking at an alarm though, only an immobilizer.  By kill switch, do you mean the mechanical type or the electronic type?  By the way, where did you have it installed when it got wet?

Cheers, Jim.

Jim,

It was a type of alarm attached to an immobiliser.. Installed just under the accelerator peddle. Not sure if it was a Trakka option or not but it definitely didn't like water.. Ill get a photo up of it if I can find it in my shed..

I think a simple switch to disconnect the battery would be the best option.

Jim,

This is the kill switch/alarm that was on my Trakka Syncro when I purchased it..The brand is AutoMate. Not sure if Trakka fitted it or the previous owner. It was mounted under the front, just beside the horn. It doesn't like water..
