Introduction

Deborah and I are pleased to report that we have a new addition to the
family - an 11/90 Caravelle Camper Syncro. It is not a trakka
conversion, rather, Camperize/Discoverer Campers
(http://www.discoverercampers.com).

The vehicle was converted by it's most recent owner in 1998 and has
been a number of times around Australia. Like Brian Reed, the owner
has upgraded to a T5, and hence our new acquisition.

We are fortunate in that we have a full service history from delivery
date at Northshore Volkswagen in June 1991(also complied in 6/91)
through to it's current 271,000km.

As a Caravelle Gl the vehicle has a number of nice comfort features,
including still working central locking (gee it's wide to lean across
to unlock the door) and power mirrors (currently u/s - looking into
perhaps the switch mechanism).

Better still, it is fitted with the rear diff lock which is in good
working order.

We are looking forward to a number of good journeys and adventures,
not least of which will be the Bateman's Bay trip on Jan 6th with many
of you.

Kind Regards,
Mark.

PS - I have placed a picture in the Misc photos area.
Mark & Deb,

Nice rig, sounds very similar to mine - even the same tyres -
different colour though. The problem with the Power mirrors is an
annoying one and one I am also burdened with. I even had a new
switch installed to the drivers door to no avail. I have checked all
the fuses in the fuse box and cant find any problems - I even
repalced the fuse that is supposed to control that circuit - no
change.

Speaking to a fellow member last year about it - aparently there is
an in-line fuse somewhere under the dash but he could not remember
where. I have not had enough time to dig deep enough and find it.

Let me know if you find your cure and how you did it.

Cheers,

Scott

Hello to all,

Thanks for having me in your group. Name is Warren and of course I mostly get Wozza. I'm a past owner of a 74 Kombi camper and would like to become a new owner of a T3 Synchro. I'm a Victorian living in Gladstone QLD. Please don't hold it against me either way.

Been well bitten by the Syncro bug and have seen some fine examples in your posts already. I'm after a quality pop top with probably a suby conversion but must admit still educating myself re the pros and cons of the different conversions.  Like to think of myself as moderately capable on the tools, although my better half would vehemently disagree.

Great to be involved.
Welcome Wozza!.

We are a very informal bunch here.

There is a guy selling a syncro on the Central Coast at Canton Beach which is a nice example but has a stock original (never rebuilt motor), has a full camper fitout with captains chairs etc but no lockers (possibly no power steering either) and he wants $25k. But negotiable....

Cheers,

Scott

Actually now there are two guys on the Central Coast selling their camper syncros.

The latest one which is on gumtree is at Foresters Beach and it has a rear locker and de-coupler, has a rebuilt donk and big wheels etc. and again wants $25k - seems to be the current price of these beasts.

No photos on gumtree yet but these are the photos that I have which i think is the vehicle:

Cheers,

Scott

Do you know if this is Ben from Forresters beach? If not can you tell me where that ad was? Also do you know if there are many QLD members? Just out of curiosity.
I'm not sure of his name (Could be Ben) or the quantity of Queenslanders in the group (but there is quite a few).

Cheers,

Scott

Hi Scott,

Do you know Ben?
I'm speaking with him about his syncro, possibly to buy if someone doesnt beat me to it haha.

Alex
Hi Alex,

Unfortunately not.

I noticed it around here in the last 12 months.

Looks like a nice rig.

He lives close but not close enough to know exactly where - so as yet I haven't met him.

Best of luck though.

Cheers,

Scott

Ah no worries, Scott
Ben said hes had it for nearly 2 years and the previous owner had it for a long time, maybe a member.

Ben has been kind enough to take the gumtree ad down and deal with me 😁
I'll fly to Sydney in a few weeks for an inspection and test drive.

Has anyone got any good ideas for transport to the forresters beach area? I was thinking bus.
Also thanks Arne for the quick advert spot!

Alex

Alex
Hi Alex,

You can catch a plane to Sydney Airport - then get on a train from the airport up to Gosford and then a bus or taxi to Foresters Beach.

Cheers,

Scott

Legend! Thanks Scott
Maybe the Owner Ben could come and pick you up from Gosford Station?

Worth asking.

Scott

Hi Warren,
Another QLD'er here in Brisbane :)
Richard
Hi Richard, thanks for introducing yourself. What is your synchro? Does it feature in the photos?
No problems! I have a Caravelle GL, so stock 7 seater. It was well maintained by the previous owners and pretty much all original. Since I've had it I've slowly been going through the mechanicals as preventative maintenance (redone most of the Aircon, fuel system, cooling system, CV's), as well as a lot of cleaning/rust proofing along the way as it is mostly rust free, added a decoupler etc.
Like yourself, and I think a lot of others I have progressed from T2 ownership in the past and loving it so far!
Even though it's my daily driver, I don't do many km per year so it gets a relatively easy life.

I've posted a fair bit on the bits and pieces I've done if you look in the photo's section.
Richard
