let me introduce a friend with an amazing journey!

hi, my new friend Leon has just arrived in Australia, so has his hi-top diesel syncro, nothing special in that, exept he has driven from Austria, thru china tibet iran iraq india he's even been to the Everest base camp in his Syncro, how cool is that??
he's got loads of story's about his journey, robbed in iran, shockies smashed in tibet, and fitting fork truck rims to get the syncro in a container!! then find out the ball joints are still lower than the tyres! he was quoted $500 to ship from india to Aus, then he got a bill for $2500!!
i'll get him to tell his story with pics,

he will be at WA DOVW with his syncro if customs and aquis release it in time!

he will also be travelling around Aus in the next few months, if anyone would like to meet him, help him on his way, show him the sights etc i'm sure he'd love to hear from you.

ps cos he's travelling he has very restricted net access, but he's got an Aus fone so he'll pass out his number later.
cheers jon

Jon,

It would probably work best if you acted as his go-between as he travels.  If we know when he is going to be where, we have some chance of connecting with him as he travels.  It has happened before that our information has been several days behind a traveller, with the result that no-one ever caught up with them.

Les

Hi Jon,

I’d love to get Leon to a Volkswagen Club of Victoria meeting when he comes to Melbourne . We missed out on the other recent overland traveler (Mark), as he was only in Australia for 2-3 weeks, and didn’t come this far south. Club meetings are on the 4th Tuesday of the month, but because of Xmas and Australia Day, the next is not till Feb. 23rd. There’s lots of other stuff on around then if his travels don’t coincide with the club meetings, and I’m sure we could include him in something (as well as local T3 Syncro group members, even if they are not also VWCV members). So please put him in touch with me when he has some idea of his easterly travel plans.

Terrific to Leon is here in Australia.

Let him know he is welcome to visit when he is in Sydney! I assume he will be at least this far south!

Regards
Mark.

All visiting Syncro Owners are welcome at my place in Terrigal - we now have a spare bedroom - which only takes a couple of hours to clear the junk out of.

Hope they have a safe and enjoyable trip around Oz.

Transport companies - $500.0 jumps to $2500.00? Crazy!

Cheers,

Scott
