Lifted Shock Lenths?

HI folks, I have the 30mm lift kit (spacers) from Brikwerks in the UK. I had new Bilstein shocks from justKAMPERS here in Aus that I put on last October and I just did 6700kms through northern WA and the rear shocks have quit on me.I think the corrugations were to much. I’m looking at the OldMan Emu shocks and have a set on hold at ARB. With the lift of 30mm do I need extensions for the shocks or should I get a longer set of shocks? I’m still on 14" wheels but will probably be going to 15". Lastly, will I have to change any gearing if and when I move up to 15" wheels? Thanks for any help.

The gearing will be OK for 15" wheels. 16" causes more problems.

Cheers Phil. Any idea about the length of the shocks? Are the Old Man Emu okay with the 30mm lift? I think I got the numbers from a set you had sold some time ago. The picture used on here. ARB have no listings for Syncros but if you give them the correct numbers it comes up as Transporter Syncro 95-90.

I have no idea.of the length.

Hi Harold.
Try Old Man Emu N37 for the rear.
Gerald

Cheers for that. It’s the N37 and then the N38S for the front that I have on hold. When you know the correct numbers ARB can help. Otherwise they show no listing for the Syncro.

Thanks Harold.
I didn’t know the numbers for the front.
Gerald

The old man emus are the right choice. If you use a longer shock or extension you will need to upgrade to 108mm cv’s. The extra droop will cause the 100mm cv’s to bind.

I have just ordered Bilstein B6s for the front. Standard for a 14" Syncro but I do have 15" wheels. My OMEs gave up the ghost after our trip to Cape York. Rears OMEs are OK though. My front springs were too soft I think. Looking at replacing those. You cant get Seikel anymore so checking out Schwenk or the Gowesty ones. Leaning towards Schwenk.

For me it was the OME shocks on the rear that had quit (1) so I got the Bilsteins from JustKampers. They were very good on refunding the price though. I only had them on since October last year. But the Gibb River is a hard road to be sure. I’m looking for 15" wheels but I don’t think I’ll have a lot of luck here in Perth. I still have the Bilsteins on the front but as soon as I borrow a set of Spring Compresors I’m going to replace with the Old Man Emu N38S’s that I’ve already purchased. GO West has 15" wheels with VW centres but I’m sure the shipping will be pricey.

If anyone has a lead on a set of OldManEmu shocks, I’m in the market for a set. My shocks are on their way out.
