-vent 1/4 pivot window front (LHS)
-Pop top (to allow my syncro to be converted from the telstra van)
-Heater control front plactic push on pannel at dash
-Exhaust pipes for VW Syncro (2-1, 2-1) and finally 2 into 1
-Muffler - vanagon (any).

Gidday Hamish,

Life is busy.....
if I'm lucky, I'll have my rack out by Christmas but it is by no means certain!

Let me know if you get hold of one in the mean time.

There have been ads for T3's being wrecked in one or two of the last VWMA's.

Cheers,

Andy.

Hamish,

I can help you with these things if you can deal with shipping from the US. =)
Obviously small parts are possible to ship for a more reasonable amount.

I think it's ironic that many US T3 enthusiasts are looking for fixed vent
windows. They are quite rare in the US.

Cheers,

sounds good Ben - to date this year i have imported from USA the following
1xquaif
1xgo westy 2.4 pistions, rods, heads cam ect
1xDPR 84.5 wbxr stroker
1xcomplete set of Audi vented dick brakes from Small car
1xfront 2wd audi vented disc brakes for  vanagon

shipping is easy - you just need to declare parts in a certian mannor to be exempt from duty ect

Hamish,

The vented brakes are from an A6 Audi. They must have those models in OZ, don't they? I am using the dual-piston Audi calipers machined to fit but with 303mm Mercedes discs (Audi 276mm-288mm) because they went on a Syncro 16. Total cost with remanufactured calipers is $300. I can get the bigger piston sets but never asked about the rest of the pieces you mentioned.

I've sent a few items to OZ for a few folks on this group and from other forums. I had brand new RHD PS racks but those are all gone.
Shipping is the deal killer most of the time. For example, I bought a grill set for my 1976 VW LT35. The bidding bid on UK Ebay was
about $11. Shipping was $229. The same pieces shipped from Germany was only $75.

I think you got burnt with the postage.

UK, USA and Australia are around the same price.
Germany is x3.

Phill
That's what I though but the postage was on the package. I had anotehr package come via Parcelforce. Two LT headlights purchased for GBP5.00. Shipping GBP49.00. Got another package with lower cargo door for a Doka. Cost GBP57.00 to ship.

The LT grill is 2 meters long. Charged dimensional shipping. In other words, they charged as if it weighed more due to oversize. Think about shipping an inflated baloon. You'll get charged as if it weighed 10-16 lbs. depending on how big the baloon is. Deflate and stick in an envelop and shipping cost drops dramatically.

Yes, it's called cubic weight. Depends on the post office. I think that they have stopped it in Australia.

How to avoid, is to make an irregular shape as they can only cube with cylinders and rectangles.

Sadly, Phil, it is applied by most carriers in the US. Irregular packages are measured at their widest points.
I used the wrong term earlier. They call it "Dimensional Weight".

On one case, Seller cut it neatly in the middle as I really only need the end pieces (separate on LT's). Cost
dropped by 60%.

By far the best shipping cost was for the entire side of a Tristar, pair of 8-foot long Doublecab aluminium dropsides
and matching tailgate, 12 sets of e-code rectangular headlights, pair of Doka doors, Tristar door panel, 6 extra large
windshield washer tanks (for headlight washer option), and pair of rear sliding doors for a Doka. Total cost? USD200
from Germany to US. I did have to fetch it from the importer's warehouse 400 miles away from home.

For comparison purposes, I had half as much stuff shipped by commrecial freight which cost about USD1,300. But
then it was door-to-door. That's shipper's door to my my house.

I wish we could get prices like that! It costs us a fortune to get spare wheel carriers from Gary Lee.

Phill,

There must be a freight consolidator from Canada to Australia. I shipped some very large items to NZ for one fellow.
It cost more to ship the 400 miles from SF to LA as it cost to ship from the US to NZ.

I used a private freight consolidator in that scenario. I had someone on the European side collecting my various purchases
before shipping as a single package. For example, it cost about $4500-$9500 to ship a 40 foot container from Germany to US
depending on route and shipping company (last time I checked). Can you imagine what you can stick in a space that big?
You can get at least two T3 Syncros in there and a mountain of parts inside and outside the vehicle. I know a guy who uses
Mini Coopers to fill out the rest of the space. Sell one car and the container is paid for.
