List of Australian Parts vendors and mechanics.

did anything become of the suggestion to make a list of vendors and mechanics for each
State ? Is it worth looking into ?
Nick,

I have had my hands full recently and haven't thought any more about the suggestion but it is quite inescapable that we will have to start pooling knowledge on parts and support very soon and not just in Australia.

I have just been through the painful experience of having to find parts that are NLA - No Longer Available - from VAG.  I had to find a crownwheel and pinion, 5.43 NLA, and the world supply came down to one set in Singapore and two sets in South Africa.  I also needed a NLA needle roller bearing and managed to find one in the UK.  I was off the road for three months as a result.

I have been trying to get further information on something that VAG has set up to address the NLA parts situation but have made very little progress so far.  I emailed VAG, asking specific questions about maintaining supply but got an answer that did not address the questions and referred me to the Volkswagen-Audi Classic Parts Centre.

I have emailed this organization, asking the same questions, but have not had an answer so far.  In the meanwhile, the parts availability situation continues to get worse.

Les, maybe a wiki along the lines of the one they have on the UK club-80-90 site might be a good solution for this. Then other users can add to it when they like?

I did actually contact them when I posted the first message to all the Syncro sites regarding the growing number of No Longer Available parts.  I never heard back from them and nothing has gone onto their website that I know of.

Unfortunately, this is a club with membership fees, not a mutual help free website like ours.

For our use, I will generate something once I have heard from VAG - well, let's make that heard something of material use, as distinct from the non-specific airy fairy replies that I have received so far.

Les,

Were you referring to Club80-90? I'm registered with them and have both received and dispensed assitance for free.
Or are you referring to another group? Clive (aka HarryMann) has been most helpful. He's one of the moderators on
their Forums. I believe the only exclusive part for paid members are organized events such as camping.

Ben,

Yes, it is the 80-90 people and it is not by any means clear from their website that it is anything other than a club by paid membership.  They have a lot of information on their website, which is good.  I sent the post regarding the No Longer Available problem to one of their moderators but haven't heard anything back.

Re: [Syncro_T3_Australia] List of Australian Parts vendors and mechanics.
Les, I’ve been a registered member and using their forum for free so far. I think it is a friendly bunch of enthusiasts and as BenT says just the camping and events are the paid bit.

Maybe a post under the syncro section about the NLA aspect would generate some interest.

They seem to have their own gearbox guru in the form of Aidan Talbot who posts regularly so maybe worth a post. It is a useful place for me to post as I seem to be the only diesel syncro owner in oz and they are plentiful over there so I can pick some brains.

Anyway coming back to the Aus list I’m keen to help if I can as I have some expertise in the web area and setting up a wiki wouldn’t be a big drama for me.

I’m gathering a big list of bookmarks just for myself so keen to share!

Cheers

Gary

I did find a membership form but it was totally different to this one.  Having found it, I did not go looking for another.  Most organizations have only one membership form.
