Hi everyone
Hope those that went to the Nationals had a great time. I, unfortunately, couldn't make it. Anyway and to get back on topic, I was wondering if anyone knows of this vehicle. The price seems at a premium, but it looks to be in pretty good condition

http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/volkswagen-transporter-1990-12717769?base=1216&vertical=Car&Range=Price:Min,Max~0.5&page=1&eapi=2&sort=LastUpdate&cr=6&__N=1246%201247%201252%201282%201216&silo=Stock&find=t3|CarAll&keyword

Would this be an original "Tristar" or is just fitted with a decal to that effect? If anyone could provide comment on this car, it would be appreciated.

Dieter

I keep a regular eye on the usual spots such as ebay, carsales and Gumtree but as yet have not had much success. Also, the group might be aware of which vehicles I need to avoid for one reason or another.

As far as I am aware there is only 1 real tristar in Australia and only 19 RHD tristars were ever made worldwide and none of them were 2wd as is this DOKA.

Looks nice though and it is not a syncro just a 2wd as there is no such thing as an automatic syncro. All the real tristars were syncros with similar but better fully specc'd trim.

Dieter. It's a very nice looking vehicle. Would love the interior fitout. Of course its not a syncro. Bill.
Thanks Scott.  Yes, I thought I had read in this group recently somewhere that there was only one true Tristar in Aust.  I thought this one might be a 2wd but wasn't too sure.  What was it that gave it away to you?

Hi Dieter & all

VW did make 2WD Tristars as well actually. Skot is correct, no such thing as an auto Syncro though.

The Tristar's had special grab handles in roof (with a light), pockets on the rear of the front seats, special door cards, contoured rear seats etc. They were all 4 door.

This example is a an Aussie DOKA Deluxe 2WD with some retrofit Tristar items. Door card in rear (minus the armrest), carpet retrofit, sticker on front (but in the wrong position - too far to centre).

Regards
Mark.

A full camper conversion can cost around $30,000 (a friend paid Frontline that to convert a new 4motion LWB) so if you can get a good low km campervan for $20,000 the van is virtually FREE.

What location is this syncro? What web page is it on?

Scott,
Maybe you should suggest to Trent via Kombi Club Forum that he bring the Trakka to the Nationals, he may get lucky.

For a trakka syncro with very low kms like that should get around $20K I would have thought easily if the condition reflect the mileage.

Dieter,
An original Trakka with 122,000 will fetch a good price.  Prices vary up and down but it would probably go for $15,000+.  If you can find the location, it might be possible for one of our members to do am initial appraisal.  I am curious about the “full camper aircon” – haven’t heard the term before.

Thank you for the info Hartmut. I rang Steve Muller and he has a syncro camper. I'm waiting to hear back from him. In the meantime, this was posted on the Kombi Club Forum -

"Can anyone help....
We have an 89 one owner trakka syncro with only 122000km....full camper aircon captians chairs all orig no accident damage orig paint, no rust all log books etc.... time to sell...
whats it worth
Thanks Trent"

I have no realistic idea of what it's worth. Does anyone here know of this vehicle (I think it's in Sydney) and would you like to offer an opinion, either high or low, of what it might be worth. I'm aware of the difficulty in doing this 'sight unseen' but as I am pretty much out of my depth here, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dieter
