LPG Conversion

Hello Michael Rayner,

I haven't forgotten, just tied up. As previously posted on this
forum, my conversion did not go smoothly.
I got it done in June '07. It is a Injection system with its own
program processor. In late 08, it started to run not too well,
the Van being off the road for over 3 mths. After all this, I ended
up with a new LPG injection system. So far so good.. But I am always
a bit anxious with all this wiring and electronics on top of the VW
gear. I have seen some Transporter with the more simpler Impco set-up.
But back-fire seems to be an issue there. Would I do it again? Not
sure after all the hassle I had. But then again, I guess we would
never run out of LPG here in OZ?!!
If you want to go down this road, I would suggest that you talk to a
few LPG installers and see what they have to offer.
Also, there is a lot of information on the Net.
Recover cost is another story altogether. If you live in Melbourne,
it will be the shortest time. While along the East coast, I guess it will
take a bit longer. In out-back Australia, it may not be
worthwhile. But then again, with an additional LPG tank, you can drive another
400 - 500 km. By the way I use about 19 lit. per 100 km on LPG.

My Installer: http://agautogas.com.au System from:
http://www.sprintgas.com.au

Cheers

Many thanks for taking the time to reply. Your response doesn't exactly fill me with confidence in going down this track. I'm hoping to drive no more than about 10k's per year so I wonder if I would recoup the initial cost especially with that stunning mileage figure you quoted. Is that true, 19 l per 100klms. That's real high. Bit scary.

Regards

Michael

I too have an injected LPG system but the bus is Subaru powered (SOHC EJ25) not VW powered.
I have had absolutely no problems at all.

I also ran the bus on LPG when it had the VW engine in it, but used the 'old' venturi type system.

It ran fine but back firing was an issue.

Cheers,

Andy.

Hi Eddie,

Could you tell me please where you got your LPG conversion done all those years ago.

Thank you,

Theo
