Mefro rims: further update

Hi all,

I just thought I'd let you know the state of play on the Mefro rims.

Syncro Services are away on annual leave, but once they return in 9 days time they will have more information on shipping quotes. They have applied for a tax number and, on the basis of this, hope to be able to offer the cheaper option of 400 euros for the shipment to Australia, which we understand is quite reasonable.

Once we have confirmation of the cost of shipping, I will work out a best-guess scenario on the price per rim landed in Melbourne. I can't give more than a best-guess because there is some uncertainty about cost of clearing the rims through customs (i.e duty and handling charges). We have been given a ballpark figure of $1000 on this however, and I will do some more research to try and confirm whether this is more or less accurate. We do know that we will be up for 10% GST as well.

So, I hope to be able to work out an estimate of probable cost to within, say, 10-20% of the final price. If anyone feels uncomfortable about the degree of uncertainty here, please feel free to reconsider. It would be better to say so sooner rather than later, though, because the cost per rim will increase if a number of people pull out. Anyway, I hope all this makes sense.

Regards,

Francesca.
Just a follow-up on this. I have had a play with the numbers. By my calculation, we are looking at approximately $125 per 15" rim landed in Melbourne, assuming we are able to ship them for 400 euros + 85 euros insurance. This is about double the price of the bare cost of a rim ex Syncro Services in Germany, but factors in shipping, insurance, duty and handling and GST. There may or may not be another person wishing to add a couple of Syncro transmissions to the shipment, which would reduce costs slightly. Don't forget that you will need to add in the cost of a fastener set if you have said you'd like to order one of these (cost $67.60 inc. GST)

So, there you have it, to the best of my ability. What's the consensus on my estimate? You have to keep in mind, obviously, what the possible alternatives are, local (new or recycled) or overseas options.

Regards,

Francesca.
